Pretty sure they aren't. They did pay him whilst he was suspended but pretty sure that stopped once he pleaded guilty as they terminated his contract
There was a move to get him to replay the money whilst under suspension but I dont think he did

Don't let facts get in the way of people's ante BBC rhetoric.

Pretty sure he resigned. They paid him 200k in between his arrest and him resigning.

And what happens if they sack him and he's then found innocent?

This was written about the previous Pope Bennedict. However rather sadly still apt for Francis.

Pope Francis (1936 – 2025), has died on this Easter Monday morning, after a reign on the papal throne for just over 12 years. May he find a merciful judgement before his Maker. Requiem aeternam dona ei Domine Et lux perpetua luceat ei Requiescat in pace.

    REQUIESCAT IN PACE.

Rest in hell to the kiddy fiddler defender. I hope it's a long and tortured spell for him

He pleaded guilty he was suspended when he denied the allegations. Once he pleaded guilty he left he may have “resigned” but only because he would have been sacked otherwise.
The controversy was he waited until
The last minute to change his plea to guilty and he was being paid until then. The BBC had little choice but to pay him whilst he maintained his innocence but all along he knew he was a nonce

My missus has similar views as some of the posts on this thread, we were in Rome last weekend and visited St Peters last Monday. After she told him her views l then told him on Monday morning we're going to St Peters today he replied "I don't want to get nonced".

After the death of the Pope let's hope they're not doing it at school tomorrow...

Not saying that but there's this sort of stuff happening much closer to home the grooming gangs etc a wrong en is a wrong en and the BBC has had plenty of this sort of thing going on over the years.

There's more than one Catholic church in most towns, how close to home do you want it?
