I like him in a more advanced role, but the OP is hyper hyperbolic.

I would add sometimes to your pleasing comment and sometimes he is a clumsy f**ker and not aware of what is around him. I would keep him but we need better.

Correct.. played as a ten at Udders it's been our coaches playing him out of position.. just because he was 7 ft tall then he had to be a holding midfielder

Played as a number 8 or 6 at Huddersfield. Only played 10 a few times

Yet going forward, he glides past players, is unbelievably agile and often takes two players out of the game.

    Funny old game innit?

I like Russell as a player and his goal contribution is amazing, but he ain’t no defensive midfielder, his defensive ability is limited. He’s needs to be played to his strengths and sit behind the front 2, not in the middle of a middle 4.

Had a good game, very skillful payer but not a defensive midfielder, today he had Connell and Bland playing that role, both were very effective. I was disappointed to see Luca subbed as I thought it was one of his better performances, maybe got a knock? I hope to see more of Bland in midfield next season as he has potential to develop further, all imho of course , well played reds

I highly rate him and think he’s going to be key in Conor’s reds hundred point season next year

    That's my thoughts.

But if we recruit better more than one, maybe let him go

I agree but it doesn't seem to benefit us having too many similar types of players.
Something needs to change for the good of the team. If the game allows we are brilliant but if it doesn't we look very flimsy.

Definitely our most improved player. My personal favourite current player. If it wasn’t for the Mackem Messi he would be my player of the year.

He's undoubtedly good, lacks a bit on his defensive play and looks lazy at times, but I wonder if that's not just because of his style.
I reckon if we could sign a proper 'terrier' in midfield Russell would fit in very well

Genuinely can't get my head round some of these comments - he can't pass, doesn't tackle and doesn't run.

Phillips is twice the player he is IMHO & I'd be very disappointed if we can't find a more effective for this league in the Summer.

He just has to do it for 90 minutes 46 plus times a season

Russell can certainly pass and has scored several excellent goals after running with the ball. I would very much like us to keep him.

He’s not the best player at the club now, never mind years.

    Thats just plain daft.

He has finished the season very strongly and I sincerely hope we retain him and he maintains that form next season - but he’s exceptionally streaky in form - plus even when on top form he is defensively suspect to say the least.

But in the final third, on his day, he is an asset at this level.
