It might not mean much to many on here, particularly after the season just gone. But that’s a statistic and achievement to be rightly proud of.

There are roughly 9 months in a season, so that works out at just under 5 player appearances in the community every week.

Well done to all involved. Outstanding stuff. The charity arm of the club never fails to inspire me.

It's a good thing but I wonder if the large numbers are actually a result of having 6 million fringe players in the squad

You have to put a negative spin on everything the club tries to do, **** off and support Wensdeh

In my opinion we have a lot we can criticise the club for in recent times. This isnt one. Its admirable and one of the positives we have seen. Keep it up.

Considering there are a number of female teams, from Juniors to Development to First team, I don't see much, if any interaction with these.
I know the Ladies first team get some exposure, the Juniors and Development get none to a bit.
Until the Club start recognising these teams and not just spout how many female teams that play under their name, I can't take this Community appearances seriously

    Is that really the case?
As I understand it a lot of the community stuff is mixed sex?

Just have a look at the pictures first Helen.
There's not many/if any of the Ladies Juniors.
The kits are not replica, they may be from Puma but not the same
Only the ladies first team receive replica.
All junior teams get their own sponsor.
The actual junior secretary sorts out the pitches at Carlton. Costs £1,000s which the teams subsidise by subs etc.
The managers of the teams sort their training pitches .
If the Juniors left Barnsley FC, we wouldn't notice any difference.
    It's in name only.
10 years ago I sat in the meeting at Honeywell when BFC approached to take us under their wings.
I asked " what's in it for us"?
    I'm still asking.
    It's not what people think

I still don't understand the women's and girls setup at oakwell at all

Don't the girls have a completely different team name to the women too?

The teams allied to BFC are
Barnsley Ladies FC ( Juniors and development teams)
Barnsley FC Women are the first team
    ..
And Barnsley Women FC are nothing to do with BFC

Well, they are clearly doing more than they ever have, based on the linked article. Can they do more? Of course.

I would suggest contacting the Community Trust (contact details on their website), or the football club itself (lots of contact details on their website too). Explain what you’ve said in this thread and hopefully you’ll see an improvement.

I do feel like the Women’s team has been a little sidelined over the last nine months. Probably comes down to staffing levels. That’s usually the case at BFC. But the things you’re referring to would definitely help the growth of the game in Barnsley. If you’re a little girl wanting to play for Barnsley, it’d be a boost wouldn’t it to see some of the Women’s first team, maybe coaching too etc. But as far as I’m aware, they’re unpaid, have actual jobs and aren’t on site for five hours a day like the men’s first team are.

As I say, you’re better off getting in touch with the relevant parties because as seen, they’re clearly trying to improve in terms of community activation.

    Also, contact the FAB.

Based on their most recent update on here, the Trust had representation at the meeting. I’m not fully clued up on how it works, but if it’s brought up at one of those meetings then Jon Flatman will be made aware, as he attends them all. Can’t go much higher than JF.

He ignores what is raised in them anyway so what's the point? Clearly needs to go above him if he's ignoring them
