Just goes to show that the old system of buying the top performing players from League 2 was better than filling the team up with cheap punts.
He's also kept up with the stats of Jay Stansfield despite not being our penalty taker and being supplied by far worse players.
I'd be very surprised if we kept him. Given his age, and getting a good number of goals, I've no doubt he'll want to play championship football and the chances of doing that with us are remote. Just comes down to fee and I suspect any business we do where a fee is paid out will be dependant on what we generate from sales.
he won’t have much of a resale value though will he? He will be 28 within a couple of months of the season starting so even after only playing for a year for his new club he will be 29 and there’s little opportunity for a profit to be made unless he sets the championship alight which seems unlikely And the same point goes for us in that his value will have dropped in a years time. We need to strike whilst the iron is hot in my view. If we got 5 million: wonderful but I really can’t see that happening
But that 3 million will not be invested, a % maybe. If we keep him, how much increased revenue from the championship is it from league one
Not sure that he’s good enough for Celtic or Rangers, and the rest of the teams up there have budgets similar to ours.
We finished 12th with him in the team this season and we’ll likely be even weaker next season. Can’t bank on promotion to cover not taking a fee for him. Plus he’ll definitely want to leave, you can tell by his media dealings. He got his way with Mansfield and will again.
Hopefully they haven’t settled on any fee yet as I expect they’ll be loads of interest. DKD is the type of player that turns a just missing out on the playoffs type season into a win at Wembley. I’d love him to stay but he’s that good i can’t see how he doesn’t end up playing in the Championship next season. We just have to maximise the fee and try to find the next one…..
Have you seen the chronicle today and conor's interview? We are on course for a 10m loss, we can all argue the wrongs and rights all day about who's at fault but the reality is a glaring gap to the tune of 10m and with new rules around ownership equity the fact is were not in a financial position to knock bids back of 3/4m. Other clubs will know our position.
Completely unrealistic. He’s had one decent season in league one, and turns 28 early next season. I agree £3million seems cheap - to a point - but £10million is way beyond what we should expect. I’d hope for maybe £5 or £6million but in all honesty, £3million return on a player we paid 750k for under a year ago, who is in his late twenties, not early; and who’s had just one successful season at a level as high as this isn’t that bad.
