It's in the setting of a world heritage site so you'd need all sorts of weird and wonderful consents to allow you do works on the tree legally. The two clowns also caused criminal damage to a scheduled ancient monument, Hadrian's wall, a punishment for which can be a prison sentence.
I agree to a defence. But when the evidence is overwhelming, as to guilt. Then a stiffer sentence has to be applied imo. The wath rioters that pleaded guilty without a trial. Will have recieved lesser sentences. Than i imagine that of those that may be found guilty at trial.
Rather a poor comparison imo. Would you say demolishing a bog standard house is as significant as a stately home. Visited by thousands The tree was a significant part of the heritage site. Then you go on to say. You reported the ones on the street to the council. What do you want em to do about it. It's only a tree. Yes they should act if the culprits are caught. But tbh i'm not sure what can be done if not under a protection order. Or owned. One crime doesn't fit the other in significance.
So they're going to be made an example of and given significant custodial sentences with the looks of things. Then we have Huw Edwards and other nonces who have been given a slap on the wrist and nothing more. There's something seriously wrong with the sentencing guidelines for certain criminal activities.
