I think that as per radio this morning many many are annoyed that he let his contract run down rather than signing a new one and getting a fee from him. See John Stones iirc?
Does anybody honestly care? It’s all pantomime really. I would imagine most of the people commenting on here criticising the Liverpool fans already have a bit of dislike towards Liverpool which is why they’re jumping on this. There were plenty of boo’s from our fans towards Hourihane when he came back as a player. You’ve got loads of Everton fans jumping on this as it’s an opportunity to bash Liverpool. They give one of their own Anthony Gordon dogs abuse when his sale helped save the club from further points deductions and relegation. They were touting him round as they were that desperate for the money.
I'm sorry but that's ******** though isn't it. They've had years to sort out a new contract, big clubs for big players rarely let them get down to 2 years, 18 months especially. Hes saved them a lot more money with him being there for nowt, for that long.
This. If you wait until late on to offer a contract then you risk this happening. He owes them nowt, if he'd suffered a career ending injury this season they wouldn't be offering him a fat new contract out of "loyalty".
How do you know they've waited this long? Who is to say how long the negotiations have been going on for?
The club and staff would know what the prevailing sentiment of the fans was towards him leaving, if it was negative, then they shouldn't have played him. Doesn't make it right though, but at the end of the day people are a bit rubbish aren't they?
So a year in advance same as VVD and Salah- be plenty of time to sort a deal if someone wanted to stay. Soon as Jude joined Madrid he was off
I'm sorry mate. "Being there for nowt"? A player is like a car or any other commodity, i.e. there is TCO - total cost of ownership- to consider. Giving him on average £100k per week since he was a teenager is hardly 'being there for nowt'.
When I say that, I meant no transfer fee mate. No initial signing on fee. No payout for agent during transfer. Let's say on average hes been on 100k a week through 8 years. Thats around 42 million quid. Theyd have to pay atleast 90-100 million outright just to get someone of his quality. Then mega wages from day dot, including bonuses and agent fees, signing on fee. Probably clauses in future sale fees. Hes saved them an absolutely bomb, and they've won loads and loads with him there, lots more than they did previous 25 year without him
Then if they've been in negotiations that long, they should have sold him straight away. As someone mentioned above, if he broke his leg and could never play again, do you think they'd offer him an 8 year contract? Would they balls mate. I just think Liverpool fans are so wrong on this. ESPECIALLY booing whilst he's actively playing for them.
I get exactly what you say about transfer fee, and it really doesn't bother me at all personally, however it's not like they kept him on YTS wages when deciding to utilise him over an import. I can't look past the fact it hasn't been a one way relationship. Yes, TAA 'gave them' close to 400 apps and helped them win trophies, but LFC invested in him from 6 years old, including family help, education, well being etc aside from world class training & development. And a Gucci salary to reflect that long term investment. I'm on the side of neither TAA or LFC fans. Theyve chosen to have a pop, just like fans of any other club in the land have at some point. But because they beat us in 98 by obnoxious means, I believe I'm supposed to land on TAA side?
Booing players. Not a novelty at t'well. mate. Makes me chuckle when some of ours sing " there's only one greedy b'std" then hero worship on return, eg Hammil lol.
I was only 5 in 98 mate. Though I'm ofcourse familiar with he who shall not be named my only memories are us beating them in 08. So good times I just really don't like how the media portrays Liverpool fans and realistically they're no better than any other club. I felt so sorry for him during that game yesterday. Shouldn't be surprised with how they treat Owen and Gerrard when he wanted to leave, but just leaves a sour taste in my mouth.
Why would they sell him if he's given no indication as to whether he's staying or not? They'd want to have kept him surely. We booed Howard at home and he hadn't signed for Sheff U. He was pulled from the game , sat in the corner stand where Ponty spotted him and he got dog's abuse so left the ground. What's the difference?
As I've already mentioned above, there is no difference mate. I've shared the same opinion on both sets of fans. If TAA and his agent haven't given Liverpool any indication, then imo that speaks volumes. Just my opinion bud.
