Aye. Pulling up in a position to react from behind Haaland. ie not between him and the empty gaping goal.
But they could have been had the game played on. They're close enough to the play to be considered in the decision.
They probably could have got back to at least try and effect play. Even if that’s the case it’s irrelevant though. The law talks about denial of a goalscoring opportunity, not a goalscoring certainty. Did he handle it outside the box? Yes. If he hadn’t, could Haaland have taken a touch and got beyond him in control of the ball? Yes. He was even shaping to take a soft touch. Had he done so, would he have had a goalscoring opportunity? Well he’d have been about eight yards out, at maybe a slight angle. And could have easily got a shot off. If a defender gets back, tackles him when shooting, or blocks his shot on the line - he still had the opportunity. He was denied it. Much the same as if someone takes a striker’s legs running through on goal as ‘last man’ - it’s denial of an opportunity. It gets a red - in that situation the keeper might still have saved it. In today’s situation a defender might have got back and might have blocked it - but it was still a very clear opportunity. The cobblers they span about the play going away from goal - yes Jared it did when the keeper slapped the ball over in that direction! Absolutely woeful decision - but worsened by them doubling down and issuing an absolute word soup of s.hite to try and justify their ineptitude. Happy for Palace to win the cup; it means more to them than it would have to city - to them it would be a minor honour to add to their many others and to barely paper over the cracks of a terrible season; whereas for Palace it’s pretty much their greatest day. But you have to say the biggest key decision in the game went their way and it was plainly the incorrect call.
Congrats to Palace in the grand scheme of football things I'm glad they won the Cup, but their goalkeeper handballed outside his box and stopped a clear goal scoring chance. No red card then he saves a penalty. When has that EVER happened? Fuckixk.ng joke.
Why when using VAR in WC's, CL, PL does the Ref go have a look at the monitor? everytime it's Wembley its just accepted that people in a room have the final say, same in our PO final, had Tim Robinson looked at the foul on Kitching he would have given it.
Pep is an embarrassing disgrace at times, when he's not spending most of his time disgustingly rolling dry spit to the end of his tongue he's patronising oppenents.
What would be your most desired choice (1) Barnsley win L1 finishing champions under conor, a team he's put together on a shoestring, all battling, running through brick walls (2) Man City become the first team ever to win the quadruple
The rule is that if the VAR team don't think there's been a "clear and obvious error" the game continues without the ref checking it. If they think there has the on-field ref gets sent to the monitor, but still gets the final say. I still can't for the life of me understand why Tim Robinson wasn't given the option to look again at the Kitching incident at Wembley.
Anything that's subjective scrap var for we've played and watched football and still are at our level and the game still works doesn't it. The matter of facts offside especially as we have that semi automated and goal line technology is brilliant keep that.
Well done, an Congratulations C Palace, a clear cut penalty, an a sending off, 5hit happens an with all the technology in the World its still Getting it Wrong.
I think that's called "goal line technology" which may well have been incorporated into VAR. But I take your point
Hasn't the ball got a sensor that vibrates on the Ref's wrist when the ball crosses the line..or has that been scrapped now. Red card ...yes Penalty.......yes Glad palace won..oh yes. Message to Pep, welcome to OUR world of Sh*te decisions affecting the result..
