That's not exactly a shock - he was one of their best players last season. But as has been mentioned on here ad infinitum, we really do hold all the cards here.
problems there is, 1: He's ours, 2: They are now in the same division 3: are they wanting to buy him and could they afford him even if we decided to sell?
https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/b...cle-pursuit-jack-shepherd-barnsley-agreement/ Of course the fee would be hard to agree on. Bradford don't spend much on fees.
A quick looks suggests that they've only once paid a fee (£35k) for a player in the last 5 seasons. Bit tricky to put a transfer price on Shepherd and obviously they will have a bit more money getting promotion, but even if he were for sale, which Im guessing he isn't, it doesn't look like theyd have that kind of budget...
He may not be good enough for us. Not every centre half performing well in League 2 can make the step up to League 1.We'll have to wait and see. I've been surprised by how much press Shepherd has got on here compared to Lopata who was playing at a higher level for the whole of last season.
Fair point but I’m not convinced the teams towards the bottom of the SPL are that much better than league two standard. I wouldn’t suggest they’d win league one, put it that way. And they don’t necessarily have bigger budgets at that level than clubs in league two either - which sort of dictates quality of player. As an example (the clubs chosen for obvious reasons), the revenue and turnover figures last declared for Ross County are much lower than those of Bradford City. I wouldn’t make Ross County favourites in a game against Bradford either I don’t think.
"Exclusive, player does well for club, said club want to keep said player" Ground breaking journalism eh
But Lopata is a defender playing against Celtic, Rangers, Hibs, Dundee United and Aberdeen. He has been up against attacking players several orders of magnitude above those that Shepherd has encountered. And because the Scottish Premier League is so small, he's played against them all 3 times.
Surely he'll come back in the summer and let Conor have a look see what he thinks.. Automatic first teamer fine.. bench warmer then sell.
7.1 overall rating for the season on Flashscore 7.2 overall rating for Shepherd on Flashscore eitherway I’m happy to see them both back and given a good chance.
I do seem to recall how slow Lopata was tho.. the Queen Mary could turn faster. Not ideal when playing two center halfs.. not got the extra help to cover your @r5e.. I'd say.. just my opinion.. Have a look at Shepherd and let Lopata go.. if anyone wants him.
Agree about Loparta being slow, and I am sure he won’t have speeded up just because he’s been out on loan.
Mladen has already said he will play a big part for us this season. Why anybody listens to what nixon says or even pays for it is beyond me
