Probably been to palace. 10+ times. Their fans hardly ever shut up. One of the best atmospheres. Of the 92 in the leagues. We have never imo matched the 70s/80s at oakwell. Or probably when we lost standing. The ponty and brewery stand was rocking in that period.
Yep, been to a few games there over the years as a workmate was a fan and would go with him when working down there, always been a decent atmosphere, sometimes not pretty but always an atmosphere.
It sounds incredibly obvious, but I honestly don't think any kind of atmosphere will be generated unless the players grow some bòllox, take games by the scruff of the neck at home and look (and actually are) hard to beat. The atmosphere in some of the games under Duff, contrary to what one poster has claimed, was brilliant - the crowd were bouncing from the start in the Plymouth, Derby and Wednesday games for example, before any goals had gone in too. But the last 2 full seasons we've been absolute pushovers at Oakwell. The Oakwell crowd expects more against - greatest of respect to these teams - Stevenage, Cambridge, Shrewsbury, Burton etc. We got 2 points at home against those 4 titans btw. Conor needs to instill a hardness into the squad this summer and make it clear that nothing less than 100% from every player at Oakwell will be tolerated. The crowd will detect that and the atmosphere I'm sure will pick up as a result.
Have a team that has great team spirit and wins games by playing with passion and skill. Hope this helps.
You need a few like minded souls to group together and keep pushing, week in, week out... that's how I believe they grew(?). Prior to them setting themselves up I've been to Selhurst Park on a number of occasions when the atmosphere was like a morgue!
Early 80's was an incredible atmosphere at Oakwell. Many visiting supporters have told me so too. Come to think of it; even the Iley years had a better atmosphere than today. The Ponty or Paddock was normally in good voice, regardless of the opposition.
It's that simple. Philosophy and Spreadsheets. Match day experience. Vendors. Etc. Win games of football.
They created an Ultras group, read my comments at the bottom of this page https://barnsleyfc.org.uk/threads/yoganathan.337192/page-2 Casuals are for the clobber, Ultras are for the atmosphere, regardless of what's going on on the pitch. That's why when the opposition score it's doesn't make a difference to their support.
I was there it did but there wasn't a song that got the crowd going. We had some pretty grim season mid 80's for obvious reasons - took us a while to get anything back
