Predominantly a large hedge that wants taking down a foot or 6, any recommendations please?
Patiently waits @Stephen Dawson to mention trimming my bush. :)

You can tell you're getting old. And rich. And wise. 20 years ago you would have tackled it with a pair of secateurs and a highly inflated assessment of your own skill set.

:D I’ve just spent the past few weeks chopping down and digging out two giant leylandii plus a couple of smaller hedges. It definitely made me feel like I was getting older! The wise and rich parts are obviously still to come. Trouble is, we’re now left with two stumps we’ve dug out that we have absolutely no idea what to do with. Council refuses to take them at the recycling centre as too thick to go in garden waste and not allowed in general waste. They’re just laid in our front garden looking like an eyesore and no one can seem to say what the correct process is for disposing of them.

Eventually they will rot down by the year 2032. I realise this doesn’t help.

You do realise the hedge is a 5km circumference around his summer cottage.

I was actually going to tackle it, I got the ladders out, wedge a bit of cardboard under one end, got all geared up….Mrs looked at me, looked at the ladders, looked at the hedge, looked back at me and said “call someone, please! I’m begging you.”

Scratch the wise. I should have known, we don't get wise, we either die or we have a wise partner.

You could try cutting bits off if you’ve the energy and creating a wildlife stack. Just pile remains up if you’ve a bit of room and encourage insects in that in turn will encourage other wildlife into your garden.

We’ve just been discussing today what we intend to do with our new garden when we move and how we want to attract as much wildlife into it as possible. Even to the point of creating a possible roost for owls! Ok so we might be getting a bit carried away, but we can dream!

Decking and bread, it'll attract loads of wildlife; rats and pigeons.

Controlled burning. The resin in the stumps will do the rest.
