I think people have misinterpreted my original post. Timerider can stay. That’s the music as the players come out. What I’m suggesting is the music to follow timerider just before kick off and at full time after a win. Something that the fans can sing and engage in.
Some good NCAA suggestions, I reckon we should go down that route but keep it traditional and have the Grimethorpe Colliery Band play Neck.
I think something like Enter Sandman would get the crowd going especially on those big attendance game. Fallen out of love with football myself so haven't been in years but watching that Virginia Tech video gave me goosebumps.
There is a world famous band from the town that have sold 25 million albums. Why don't we embrace it. Maybe the kids don't know them but they soon would
I agree that Timerider still has a place at Oakwell, especially for us older hats who can recall it playing in the glory years when Oakwell rocked with the paper confetti before every game. I'd like to see something like Hells Bells added instead of country roads though. Could just imagine Toby running about with a bell...
It was inspired by the classical piece, fanfare for the common man, which has obvious links to the working class of Barnsley who died during WW2. It was also popularised by the 1985 series "The Hitman and Her, so maybe someone back then was a fan"
Love AC/DC and there’s lots of Hockey teams in North America use them as intros, Thunderstruck or Hells Bells are favourites. Not my favourite band but this is awesome as an intro.
For me timerider has to stay. It's not the problem. The problem is AFTER timerider there is a big void where any atmosphere dies a death. Key things when choosing a song is that it has to appeal to everyone. Has to be instantly recognisable with lyrics that the majority know. Has to be easy to sing. Has to have the right atmosphere to it. To be instantly recognisable means you have to pick a famous song obviously, something obscure wouldn't really get traction straight away. Has to be easy to sing. That rules out a lot of the AC/DC type songs that have been mentioned. Has to have the right atmosphere. By that I mean something a bit upbeat or at least meaningful. Country roads is practically a dirge. Appeal to everyone means it can't be purely an old person's song or purely a young person's song. Something that I think ticks all the boxes as known by everyone, liked by most, easy to sing along to and most people know the main lyrics while being quite upbeat is livin on a prayer by bon Jovi. I can easily imagine that being belted out by the ponty end. Another which is completely different and it might sound crazy. I want it that way by backstreet boys. Not popular with those over say 50 maybe but everyone under that age knows it and it gained a lot of fame in the last 10 years after being used in Brooklyn 99 during a famous scene. It's a song that appears on the internet quite a lot on for example tiktok and the top comment every time will be "now number 5" which will pretty much always have thousands of likes. As I say, it's a bit of a random song but again imagine thousands singing it. Could easily become a bit of a cult thing
