I'm a cab driver. Retired football and cricket 10 years. Pretty unfit. Got up and did a YouTube exercise video for 20 mins. Feel better for it but I was a little puffed towards end. Not shortness of breath just puffed a bit. Anyone have opinions on if this is normal? I'm 50, walk the dog 2 or 3 times a week and I vape.
I agree but it's so much harder than quiting smoking. I think cause it's always in ya hand. It's like a vice
Not knowing the YouTube video means it’s impossible to answer this, even if we were doctors. If was a Yoga video, I’d be worried, if it was 20 minutes non stop jumping jacks you did well. Similarly, are you walking the dog on the lead for 15 minutes each time on a pavement or going for a 10 mile walk up and down hills across streams and through forests? If you’re worried, go see a doctor. If you feel like you just want to get a bit fitter, get a health tracker watch and up your exercise. It can be your YouTube videoes, longer/more strenuous walks, Couch to 5K or whatever you fancy that gets you moving.
A mate of mine was in a similar boat wanting to get fitted and he got one of them electric mountain bikes. Obviously they are pricey for a half decent one and need somewhere to store and use it, but they aren't too unreasonable on monthly payments and lots of places do 0% credit on them. With the electric motor you get different levels of assistance to help out, so at the start you'll be able to use max help while you get fitter and then can drop it down etc. I was considering one myself recently but with a potential job swap on the horizon I'm putting the idea on back burner for a bit, but they might be worth a look for you.
I started running at the start of the year . I'd struggle to run 20 minutes in January but now I run for 1hr 4 days a week so I'm now running about 35km a week. Just built it up gradually and now not much of a struggle . Feel a lot fitter for it and definitely look a lot slimmer. Don't seem to have lost much weight which is a bit wierd. I'm 50 aswell btw
Get out walking in the countryside, it will do you the world of good both physically and mentally. I walk around the Holme Moss / valley area and there's walks to suit anyone's ability. Fleece pub is a good pit stop too
Well if the exercise video was more intense than walking then sure, entirely normal, if you're not used to it.
I’d say it’s normal. Walking is good for general fitness but you aren’t getting the heart rate going like you would if you workout to an exercise video, ride a bike up a steep hill, sprint at football etc. I’ve done quite a bit of running at times & lost weight & felt loads fitter but still I’ve gone to play football & felt knackered after doing a few sprints as I wasn’t used to sprinting.
I’m by no means a health guru but I’m pretty active most weeks, lots of stuff I read always say that diet is the start to most fitness regimes, I absolutely love a Chinese of a pizza etc on a weekend but I try and have some structure in the week. I used to use a app called myfitnesspal, it’s free and you keep track of what you intake, believe it or not you become quite subconscious of hitting your daily macro targets so that could help things. Like a few other have stated, I’d sack that vape (if possible) and push yourself, we all don’t like being uncomfortable but try something that you know your going to dislike for 30 mins or whatever, if it’s going left ok the flat or right up the hill go for the right…….you’ll feel better for it after!! Do Oakwell still do that FitReds club? That might be worth looking at. Anyhow, all the best with whatever you choose to do
I vape (it’s very minimal nicotine liquid as I’m tapering down) and it’s not affected my health ambitions in terms of working out and walks etc. I do PLP workouts 5 days a week, two days rest, and around 15,000 steps a day in terms of brisk walking. I’ve lost around 8 pounds since I started in the new year but I’m far more toned and feel as good as I’ve ever done, mentally. That’s the key. If you think well, you’ll be well. In my experience.
Can tha swim..? Start goooing tet auntie Caths couple a times a week. Get a few lengths in. Best exercise for thi
