He was a friend of ours. Absolutely lovely man. I knew he’d been ill over the last few months but this has really caught me off guard.
He always used to joke with me that I’d never forgiven him for sending off 2 players v Donny.
He was such a top man. I’m absolutely gutted by this news.

Very sad news, a very good and fair referee who was in a difficult position being one of the first black referees.

Bloody hell. RIP. One of the first refs I remember when I started watching football, after Collina. Mad to think he was only about 40 odd when he did the infamous Donny match.

RIP, I was a referee during the years he successfully climbed the ladder. He had had his critics of course and I didn’t know him personally, but most of the the ref’s I talked to from all over the Sheffield and Hallamshire County FA, spoke highly of him.

Wow, RIP Uriah. I used to bump into him regular in the gym and pool in Hillsborough. Fit as a fiddle even in his 60s.

He used to ref in the Sheffield leagues before he got promoted. He was the fittest bloke on the pitch and you couldn't question his decisions because he was only 5 yards away from the action. A brilliant bloke. RIP Uriah.

Having been involved in local football, including Anglo Scania/ Meadowhall League on a Sunday, I can definitely say Uriah was a proper gentleman.
Added to that, he was a boss at Hillsborough Leisure Centre.
I'm pretty sure he was into his martial arts as well.

Keith Hackett once told me he would be the first black/coloured Premier ref.

RIP Uriah, it was a pleasure to be in your Company

I'm sure he had just been appointed chancellor at Hallam University so his death must have come as a shock.

A bit of a shock. RIP.

I'll always remember freekicks he awarded, with his strides seemingly being massive compared with other refs.
