Starmer regrets island of strangers speech. Why, they are only words, that’s all. Apart from someone you love and respect which matter, could you really ever be hurt by any words ever said by a stranger? Christ on a bike

I think he should now say to the party Back me or Sack me because he doesn't look like a man in charge at present. It's took Labour14 years to oust the Tory scumbags and 14 months to start shooting themselves in the foot and becoming unelectable.
my understanding is that most of the people trotted out by the Tory media we're unaffected by any changes. Unless I've misunderstood..

Not my question I know, but I couldn't help pointing out that Farrage is going to dismantle the NHS and when he's got away with that, the entire welfare state will be next. I hope people don't vote for the end of the NHS,,,,, but after the Brexit vote, nothing would surprise me.

Hope they do sack him. He is now just confirming what everyone knew. He is weak and definitely no leader.

I've never understood why people get hung up when a PM does a U turn when it's based on the majority of MPs not backing the original decision. That's democracy working.
People disagree with a policy and lobby their MP. The MP lobby's the PM. The PM listens and changes policy.

I think that very many people were going to be affected. My wife and I resigned our party membership due to this policy. I don’t expect a Labour government to act like Tories. But God help us if Farage got anywhere near power.

The question of what his attitude should be to those who still vote against the bill despite the concessions is an interesting one. Threatening to remove the whip from them gambles that there won't still be a substantial number of rebels. If the number is large, then he would undermine his authority further by not carrying out that threat if it would remove a sizeable chunk of his majority. Better to tolerate any remaining rebellion and move on to the next issue, while learning the lessons of carrying your colleagues with you when seeking major reform.

Don't know there's not a election for how many years? I doubt the current one will be a option in the next election.

My favourite u turner by far was Liz Truss. You’ve got to be really special to u turn on an entire budget. Imagine if we’d endured a year of that!
