Rotherham or Barnsley, postal address is Barnsley but there's a welcome to Rotherham sign at the entrance to Cortonwood, l think that's their council trying to claim it back..
Cortonwood is definitely in Rotherham. The rates are paid to Rotherham council and any plans are submitted to Rotherham Council. The postal address is Barnsley and the postcode is S73 hence a lot of the confusion. Most of the retailers label their Cortonwood stores as ‘Barnsley’ or ‘Barnsley Cortonwood’. The main access road into the retail park is in Barnsley, however. When Morrisons opened they incorrectly invited the mayor of Barnsley to cut the ribbon or something like that. I know the former Wilko is being split into two smaller stores. Unsure if Hotel Chocolat will be one of those.
No - Cortonwood. Most of the Alhambra is going to be NHS. BPL are also opening a gym in there. As far as I’m aware there won’t be any retail upstairs.
Any news on the boom bar unit? Seems a strange decision for for bpl to be opening a gym in the Alhambra instead of in the unit that they originally wanted a gym in.
I don’t know if it’ll be a commercial gym or whether it’ll be used for more physio/recovery type activity. It ties in with the health on the high street initiative. I believe BPL were approached about the unit above JD quite early on in the glassworks development and they weren’t interested.
Some of this has already been discussed earlier in the thread. Primark is supposedly moving into the former BHS (more recently occupied by Sports Direct, New Look and Superdrug). The last I heard Superdrug were taking the Urban Burgers and Foot Health Practice units with those two being relocated elsewhere in The Glassworks. The plans might have changed, but I’m not sure the two merged units announced last week would be big enough for Superdrug, but perhaps it might be.
Superdrug are saying they will be moving to Urban Burger and foot place merged units by December. The former BHS store needs some work for Primark to relocate to. Urban Burger were supposed to be having the unit between Salt House and Nandos
Wonder how many floors Primark plans to operate from, could see a multi-floor Primark working if I’m honest don’t think I’ve ever been in an empty Primark anywhere. The BHS building is in need of a revamp so this can only be good news at it’s currently I right eyesore. Wish Boots was flattened and redone as that building is also a monstrosity in my opinion
I’d assume they’ll utilise two floors and use the third for stock. Other than signage and a new entrance/windows, I can’t imagine much else will be done to the exterior of the building.
