For the good of our up coming season wouldn't to be great if Conor could Max firing on all cylinders.. A good preseason banging the goals in could be the difference come August. He's pacey and a grafter but when he misses a chance you can see his confidence drain and he disappears up his butt-hole.. So come on Maxyboy.. this is your time to shine starting tonight at Emley.. you've proved before, it's in there somewhere. I know there's an above L1 level player in there. It's all about the confidence with Max..
I think I’m one of the few on here who doesn’t mind him. When he’s fit. He’s quick, direct and gets into the right areas. But he breaks down a lot and he’s definitely a confidence player. One of those isn’t it. If we found out he’s left, today, I wouldn’t complain. But equally, if he’s fit and part of the squad I think he adds something. Last year of his contract too, unless the club takes up the option. So imperative for Max that it clicks this season because he’ll not be getting anywhere near his current salary again should he have another similarly disappointing campaign.
When he was on loan here, the only thing he did was score goals from decent chances. But he never ran the channels, barely split the defence or used his pace. Now though, he does alot more of the graft but his finishing has been abysmal to say the least. Would love for him to work out though obviously. Maybe Conor will get a tune out of him
I'm with you He'll never be a great goalscorer, but he stretches teams, causes problems with his pace etc
One of the strangest signings at Oakwell and we’ve had a few. Did very little in his loan spell, yet the club paid money and gave him a 3 year deal. Another example of the club just burning cash.
He definitely looks the part but injuries and a lack of confidence have stopped him from kicking on with us. Unfortunately it's got to be said that so far he's been a big flop and a waste of a lot of money, he couldn't even get in the squad under Collins. I'd hope that we can move him on this summer and maybe retain an interest in case it ever does click for him, but if not I'm sure the last year of his contract will focus him.
I’ve always liked Watters but he’s shown his ability far too infrequently. This is his time - turn it on now or leave
He only scored 4 goals in his loan spell though, 2 of those in a game vs MK Dons, 1 vs Wendies and 1 vs Cambridge before being sent off. Then someone thought it was a good idea to give him a 3 year contract.
Fully with you on this one. He didn't get a lot of game time when we loaned him, granted he got a feel good goal against Wednesday, but there just wasn't anything about him that said must sign. I feel we sign too many based on data without footballing input or rigorous footballing analysis. Nor do I think we do enough on character and mentality. It's just another in a long line of data punts that have cost us a lot of money and haven't given sufficient output in footballing terms, let alone the holy grail of huge financial profit. Having said that, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if he picked up injuries for most of the season, somehow scored 8 in 8 then walked for free to somebody taking a punt paying higher wages.
I'd love for him to come good but imho, how many coaches has he had here and not one has got a tune out of him? The constant excuse was lack of confidence and injuries but we were stating lack of confidence with one game in last season! He's just not a very good footballer at this level... nor is he a goalscorer. A poor signing.
Time has run out for him unfortunately. Four different managers he’s had now and he’s cack. Just watch back Bristol R away from January just gone… Good luck to the lad, hope he gets another chance somewhere just not at Oakwell
Yes I know mate. His minutes weren't many but when a chance did come his way he slotted it home. But since those chances especially what he missed against Bristol rovers, I have much less faith in him. But hopefully lad gets some confidence and have a decent season.
I might be alone in this. But it doesn't feel right you've shared that. I know you share plenty of things and I feel your hearts in the right place in the way you do it, but in this case I think it's better left unsaid, or at least held back until he has actually moved on.
He was superb in that game. He just saw a couple of one on ones saved and fudged another chance. It happens. There were better examples of him being poor.
