Horrible to hear, given me a lump in my throat reading that. I hope he doesn't suffer much in the time he has left, thoughts with his poor family.
That has taken him quickly, so sorry to hear this news. I like many others enjoyed watching him on the podcast.
Alan smith what a boy Had many a hours or minutes listening him ramble on getting players names wrong and Barnsley facts wrong way round, kept me entertained though ! What a nice bloke. RAO legend - horrible news
Sorry to hear the sad news about Alan. My thoughts are with Alan and his Family. I have never met him but like him I am a member of the club none of us asked to be in and in remission. Get your self tested guys it could save your life.
So sad to hear that. I didn't know Alan but on his diagnosis he started to follow my fundraising page on Twitter for Weston Park. I read about his diagnosis and his positive attitude towards the journey ahead. Horrible to see how quickly it's taken hold.
Gutted. An absolutely lovely fella, no harm to nobody, and a huge Red. Just three weeks since we were talking. **** cancer. Sleep well, Al.
So sad to hear that my long term friend is on the way out. The many hours in his and his Dad (Stans) company were never time wasted. I remember one conversation about Stan and Renee's long marriage going something like "It'll be our 50th Wedding anniversary soon". To which Al joins in, "I think your wrong there Dad, I turned 50 last year" to which Stan just turned to me and gave me a "Sly Fox wink". I can also own up to a bit of trespass onto the pitch at Oakwell in Alan's company. We attended the 1995 end of season do in the East Stand and well past midnight we were making our way to the exit when we couldn't resist going onto the pitch and making our way to the centre circle. A quick coin toss for choice of ends and the game began. Finally Alan was with me on the greatest ever Saturday night in Barnsley. April 26th 1997.... We did a sort of pub crawl but when it got to Treadles we couldn't get anywhere near the place. Locals were standing on the wall opposite and the evenings beer was raking its toll as they swayed to and fro. Then a girl suddenly fell face first onto the road and Al was first to her rescue. I could see the look of horror on his face as he lifted the girl up and saw in her very blood soaked mouth she had knocked all of her front teeth out. Less than 10 seconds later Alan realised it was nothing more than a cut lip and the fall had removed the top set of her dentures. For the first time ever I got drunk on champagne that evening......Thanks for the memories Al Yoooo Reddds
