I keep reading our conversation back. From the day in March when he told me, to the final text 16 days ago. Just me checking in, or him letting me know how it was going. Interspersed with photos he’d send, of him and Kate during better times. Chatting about the Reds. Trouble with someone like Alan, he’s such a positive soul that only when reading his last text did I finally think it wasn’t going to be okay. Up until then, it was fine, a battle he was going to win, everything will be sound. I’m absolutely gutted. If we had an academy game on, I’d bump into him. Fan forum, he’d be there. Carvery? Definitely. He loved those. Home, away, win lose or draw, he was there. We even had him and Kate model one of the kits some years ago, alongside other supporters we felt deserved a bit of something special. This is a bloke who lived and breathed BFC, he’d seen the lot. But his enthusiasm never dimmed. I’m rambling. But so what. Thank you, @anstonred, it means a lot.
RIP Alan. Only really knew him from Facebook and Twitter, but bumped into him one sunny day walking down Ingoldmells seafront with Kate. Both of us wearing some form of reds attire a quick nod of appreciation and we stopped and had a 5 minute natter about the reds. Top bloke, who seemed to have time for anybody.
Now that is typical Barnsley!!! Didn’t know Alan but rest easy, sir, and condolences to family and friends.
I’ve been a Reds fan 40+years, although I didn’t know Alan personally, I’m sure I’ll have bumped into him at some point. My thoughts are with Kate, family and friends. Rest in Peace, once a Red always a Red.
Sad news, heard of his passing whilst at the Emley game this evening. Love and condolences to Kate and all of his family and friends. Rest well Alan.
RIP AL my friend fellow Red and former Wath Main colleague…… Taken after only 4 months since diagnosed I cried when Kate took his beloved dog Bonny to the hospice to see Al and the dog wouldn’t go to him……they know don’t they I take solace that he’s out of pain and he,ll be with his Dad Stan who he absolutely idolised
Never met the man but interacted with him on YouTube and social media, always BFC related ofcourse and throughly enjoyed watching him on red all over. What incredibly sad news this is. How quickly its seemingly happened. Proper gutted. All my love to his family, I'm sure him and his dad will be watching over his family and the super reds together now. Rest in peace mate
