Just been revisiting this: I thought some of the younger posters who aren't aware of early Bowie might like it
I have a particular liking for "Life on Mars" due to spending most of the summer of 1973 working at Butlins, Filey. The only music was a continuous hits tape on the PA system which was mostly dross like Dr Hook's "Sylvia's Mother" (still hate that song to this day) but embedded in the mire was "Life on Mars". We loved it when it eventually came on. David Bowie – Life On Mars? (Official Video)
Maybe because I'm a Bowie fan I find it hard to isolate any track out but I think the most Bowiesque single of the lot was Drive in Saturday..Wierd to the weirdest degree..
Saw Holy Holy last month ie Tony Visconti (genius producer), Woody Woodmansey (spiders from mars drummer) and Glen Gregory, they opened with this classic, played ots of deeper album cuts, an absolutely brilliant night, got chatting to WW at the end as well...made my night
Youre quite right. So many great songs. But one could say that about loads of bands/acts from the past. Loads of em. How about really early Rolling Stones? And to push it further what about groups/music that are forgotten or don't get on the radar. Loads of it. How about Scott Joplin, Hoagy Carmichael, Rodgers and Hart, Beethoven, Thomas Tallis. There is so much forgotten music out there that its impossible where to start. What about music that was music before anything ever got recorded? .... P.s. The Laughing Gnome is the best song ever recorded and even that one is usually forgotten.
