Oasis are about to take over social media

Great post. It was a vibe or moment. I loved em' they resonated with me at the time but my pallet changed and so did my musical taste. I still dust off my CD's now and again but its for Led Zeppelin, Status Quo or the Rolling Stones. If I'm feeling moody Pink Floyd. I digress.

 

If Oasis’s helicopter had gone down, whilst flying them away from Knebworth, they would have left behind a very good body of work. A great first album, some great songs on the second albums and quite a few great songs wasted on B-Sides. “They just ripped off other bands riffs”, people say. Yep, they did, but so did Led Zeppelin. A lot. And if it’s that easy I invite whoever tells me that to go and do the same then. See if they make an album as good as Definitely Maybe. Oasis were a great live band in 94/95 too. I saw them several times and my mate’s sister did their PR, which came in handy.

But…

The helicopter didn’t go down (luckily for them!). Lots of booze and coke did though. And so did the quality of their output, dramatically. They did a couple of decent songs after Knebworth, The Hindu Times and The Importance of Being Idle, the latter of which not only ripped off The Kinks’ Dead End Street, but the video ripped off the one The Kinks made for Dead End Street too. Check it out on YouTube. Nevertheless, good song, good video. The rest I’m not bothered about, either bloated, tuneless dirges or poor imitations of their earlier songs. I only saw them once more after Knebworth, at Wembley Arena in 97. That put me off seeing them again. Noel’s first solo album was okay, but it’s not something I really listen to. Liam’s post-Oasis stuff is pretty weak. So I can’t see them suddenly recapturing the magic of 30 years ago, when they’ve done little of note since then.

But it’s the chance for those too young to have seen them in their heyday to go and see them, I guess, along with a load of 45+ year old coked up blokes trying to recapture their own lost youths. My suspicion is that Noel just wants the payday from these gigs, so once the arguments start, if/when they get a bad review, that will probably be the end for Oasis.

 

I love them & I’m not ashamed to say it.

I was too young when they first made it but I somehow ended up with the Familar to Millions live album & to me it was amazing. Before that I’d only ever had Now CD’s or heard my old man’s music.

I’ve often heard people say that they went **** after the first two albums but I couldn’t disagree more.

Half the world away, Little by Little, Listen Up, Hindu Times, Stand by me, Whatever, Rockin Chair, importance of being idle, Lyla, Gas Panic, Step Out, Don’t go away, Sunday morning call, stop crying your heart out, let there be love, talk tonight & the masterplan are all from albums after the first two & I think they’re all quality.

Obviously the rest weren’t as good as the first two but realistically were they ever going to be? Most bands struggle to follow up one good album never mind two classics.

Not a big fan of Dig Out Your Soul or Liam’s solo stuff or Beady Eye apart from The Roller but I’m a massive fan of Noel’s first two solo albums.

I was too young to see Oasis first time round as they broke up as I just started working but I’ve seen Noel several times & he’s always been excellent. I’ve often put his Sitting here in silence concert on in the background while I’ve been working.

 

A compilation album

 

Masterplan is an excellent album, to go with the first 2 excellent albums, but it is made up of tracks that were written at the same time as the first 2 albums. They were great over that period.

Anything after that though is a bit meh, save for the odd tune.

 

Until I really started listening to them I never noticed how repetitive the lyrics were, see Live Forever, Don’t Go Away, All Around The World and Stand By Me as examples, singalongs when you’re pissed absolutely but brilliant songwriting no chance,

 

All around the world is one of the worst songs ever written.

 

Maybe they shouldnt take over social media though.

Saw that and the hords of keyboard right ons people over themselves to get offended and vilify him even after he apologised for any offence taken, given they're touring Asia for months can't really stick that one on him.

I guess we should all remember the only racism that is allowed is anti semitism which gets an Internet blue peter badge it seems.

Off to see them a week tomorrow - genuinely can't wait. First time in 16 years, my favourite band (as you can probably gather from my unfinished Top 200 songs thread the other year).

Be Here Now my favourite album. About half an hour too long, but was released when I was 17 and I absolutely loved it then and love it now.

The build up of the leaked sound checks etc on twitter has started to whet my whistle so to speak.

Bring it on.

Honestly, you talk utter ****. I get it, you want respect from virtual strangers to gain some kind of bank of Internet credits, but seriously? Ive been to Africa? Ive a degree in pissing people like you off, grab hold of the chain and swing....

 

It would be easier to get hold of a ticket to watch.

 

Blur, Pulp, Charlatans & IC all their early stuff yes every time.
Oasis, Like others said first two albums and stuff from that era was good (some excellent) but slightly over exaggerated for me by the media.
