Well I don’t think i will be going back in to town for a long while.Been this morning visited 3 car parks and ended up in Morrisons as everywhere was full and that was at 10am.Just don’t know what the sodding council were thinking when they decided to close the big car park across from the bus station.I dread to think whats going to happen Wh en the season start and especially when we play all the local derbys.I usually park in the re when going to the match so I will have to have a rethink
Totally agree with you. Spent millions on making the town centre a lovely place to visit and then remove parking is utterly daft. What makes it even worse is closing the big one near Morrisons (John Street?) at the side of Westway. They are moving part of NHS from hospital as it is difficult to park there to the upper Alhambra and then close the near carpark and put council vans and mini buses on it. Absolutely fantastic piece of organisation - not.
We live in an age now where driving your car is being discouraged.. Cameras, road closures and not only the lack of parking but the expense (have you been to York or Nottingham lately) Are just 3 of the weapons used. Think on if considering giving the greens your vote..
Indeed, convenience is way more important than wildfires and floods ravaging our homes and local communities. Bloody greens!
Public transport needs to be, clean, safe, reliable and most importantly cheap. THEN, you can start to implement measures to reduce car usage without hopefully ruining the economy. As it is public transport is rarely any of those things.
It doesn’t help that the Lung cancer screening/scanning units are in the Market Gate car park this week. It’s frustrating as a ‘regular’ who uses this car park rarely can find a space now.
Closing that car park near Morrisons is absolutely bonkers. Loads used it and all it will do is deter people from coming into town. A lot used it for Barnsley night games too. We struggle to get people to attend and that will likely put a few more off.
We went in this morning. My mother had a hospital appointment. Given the horrors of trying to park at the hospital, the idea was to drive to town, have a coffee in town and then get the bus up to the hospital and back. Closest place we managed to find to town was street parking off Summer Lane. It was equidistant to walk up to the hospital as back into town so we did that. No major loss to the town but we'd have likely spent £20 plus on parking, bus fares and coffee. Instead spent nothing above the expense of burning petrol whilst searching for a parking space.
Barnsley Council make the town centre nice with the Glassworks etc. then shoot themselves in the foot 'cos there won't be more visitors spending money 'cos there's nowhere to park. https://www.thestar.co.uk/news/poli...ved-for-barnsley-town-centre-car-park-5073709
I'm pretty sure they announced months ago that they were going to close the that car park for some ground works, it's only going to be temporary. I could be wrong minst. So you got parked up, for free. Win win.
Park at one of the many park and rides and get the bus in. £3.90 each and much easier than driving into the city centre or parking. We only drive to the city centre when we go to a gig. Its the train price from Donny that gets me - at least £20 each for a return on a 20 minute journey and on certain trains its £46 return.
Temporary ground works yes, but they are building offices and apartments . Maybe some parking but I assume it will be for new buildings folk, like at side and back of the Core (or whatever they call it now) on the upper car park.
I thought the offices / apartments / multi storey carpark plans had been canned due to the expense. I think these ground works are for a fancy new footpath with some ridiculously expensive steet art.
I must have missed that. They look to be digging a lot out to just be a bit of footpath and garden. Still would be better as a car park for shoppers though imo.
