Tongue is garbage anyway. Way crickets going it isn't about taking 20 wickets anymore. You need to bat down to 9.
I must be a minority but I reckon he’s still a lot to prove in test cricket…he’s got about 40 wickets at over 30 and played a dozen games. Is that good enough ? Having said that, he must be a formidable sight running in on a bouncy wicket
If he’s anything like what he was when he first played be will be just fine. Numbers only mean so much, he’s clearly ridiculously talented and the rest will take care of of itself.
Baffles me. But apparently, he’s going to come good. We’ve been told this for what seems years now. At this stage it’d be nice to see him face 100 deliveries, never mind card a century.
Not a lot for two. Who’d have guessed? … Duckett out to a poor ball. Crawley got a good nut but it’s yet another failure for him. Good ball, but If he’d picked the length like a proper test batsman would, the swing would have got the outer half of the bat and it drop in front of gully (or he could have left it on length) - not an edge behind as he got. It went off the top of the bat/glove. He’s poor. If it’s flat he can whack it - but he has absolutely no technique to deal with any conditions that give anything to a bowler. That isn’t good enough to open the batting. Pope fortunate not to get a first baller too. And looking twitchy.
Another good Cric Info stat. England's run rate of 3.32 in the opening session is the lowest of 17 instances where they batted first since McCullum took over (June 2022). Their previous lowest was 3.66 at Rawalpindi last year, where they were 110/5 in 30 overs before lunch.
Back to the good old days of Stewart and Atherton putting on a pretty 40 only to get out and leave us in the 5h it.
