Rubbish, in 2015 he wasn’t doing a great deal at Ipswich. I know a few Sheff Utd fans very well and they always spoke very highly of him although he wasn’t a prolific scorer for them, they were however in championship and Premier league when he plied his trade with them. I think it’s a bit of a low cost punt tbf, but maybe he comes in and scores 15 or so goals for us next season and if he also retains his all round top quality forward play it will do for me. Cmon David Mac prove the doubters wrong please.
He probably suits what we need right now though, we've got a fair few good young uns coming through and a few players that will sit their contracts out so he could be an instant improvement for the here and now whilst buying time for the rest to fall in place.
Jamie Vardy wasn’t playing in League Two for the last two years. McGoldrick hasn’t got nearly 150 goals in the top division. Or seven international goals. As I said on the other thread. Not against his signing. Not at all. Got a bit of the Hendrie’s and Wilkinson’s about it. But it is completely contrary to the said game plan of high press and fast turnovers. If he’s here to be a mentor, to play the last twenty minutes of games maybe and show some guile, nous and good old fashioned shithousery - then happy days. I’m just glad he hasn’t been announced as coming in as a player coach…
Good signing in my opinion! If he's accompanying the usual selection of youngsters his experience should be invaluable. Obviously a character that Hourihane wants around the place. And he's still scoring goals.
Get your drift mate, I honestly think we are getting carried away by this talk about “high press”, it ain’t going to be what we saw under Big Val, that is for sure, I think CH probably trying to get us on front foot more regularly and that’s about all I reckon. BTW , high press ??....anyone would think the games been reinvented when all the so called “high press” means is closing down the opposition.
Will he be able to teach Jalo to stay on his feet - assuming he gets off the phisio's bench of course.
I agree that a lot of it is nonsense when they act like no one ever pressed a side before Klopp’s Dortmund team. It just scares me with the lack of pace in the squad & how they set up in the last 10 games. I just hope it’s some ploy to sell season tickets because we really haven’t got the players to play like that.
Good solid pro yes he's 37 but we've not given him a 3yr deal not much risk involved. I would imagine he will be a leader in the dressing room and set a great example to the younger players you don't get a contract at his age by cheating in anyway.
Agree, if we get bit more pace in defence we will be part way to solving problem imo, hopefully this gets resolved before season kicks off
Let's hope that Jalo can get fit and stay fit and have a great season, a bit of experience around him should only help.
I’ve been saying for years that experienced strikers tend to do well at this level. He’s a quality footballer and I think it’s a pretty shrewd signing. Would likeness us to sign Steven Fletcher too if at all possible
So you’d be happy with Norwood back but cos of his age it’s now a ‘desperate signing’ More faces than fuking tarn hall clock half of your
Also, had let’s say Bolton signed him, the same folk would be saying ‘why can’t we sign a proven goal scorer’
I was relating his age which you centred on. And on the point you make, Mcgoldrick has scored at every level. Not as prolific as vardy but more than equipped at this level.
