Very underrated in my opinion. Need to get at least another 12 month deal on him. Or sell him. We can't keep letting players walk for free.
He was out for rather a long time with that’illness’ and was clearly way below fitness levels for a time after. That was the best part of a season gone so to say he had an average 2 seasons is not quite accurate. Last season he was inconsistent but you can look at the whole team for that as well.
I think you've hit the nail on the head regarding last season, lots of quality midfielders but not a very good midfield, there was some embarrassing team performances in those last 10 games or so. Unfortunately we can't have change without changing things. Conor's no mug and knows that he'll be gone if things carry on in the same vein.
Whose knows my point been chuck enough money at it get the right people to spend it. More fail than succeed but who would have thought Bournemouth,Brentford and to a lesser extent Fulham and Brighton would be established top flight clubs.
Exactly why he said when taking over he had to build the club first by focussing on the youth. Dan Rice his head of football is very much a specialist in youth football, he’s brought him in for a reason. Like I say they will spend more than historically but the way some on here talk they think he’s mega rich and gonna spend a fortune. Seem to remember people fell for that trick with Chien etc.
I'm sure I had a replica shirt with your avatar on it (Clarky 1 era, or was that too early for replica shirts ( other than those your mam used to make yuh?).
I remember Cheltenham at home 2022. We were struggling 1st half. Luca came on early 2nd half changed/ ran the game. Looked class. Had a few dips since but still one of the better midfielders at this level.
Yeah illness definitely played a part. But regardless of the cause, he hasn't looked a million pound plus player for a while.
Haven't really rated Connell for last two seasons but he was immense until his shocker miss at Wembley. He's a great captain and role model to young 'uns. Never gives up. On a personal level I'd like to see him speak to a sports psychologist and regain the form that made him sort after. He'd be wasted at Wycombe. He'll do what's right for him but I'd rather he stayed. If anyone can get the best out of him it's Hourihane and as another poster eluded to he's smiling.
We have reached an all time low selling our captain to wycombe ******* wanderers . Tinpot ex non league team. Utter shambles. Owners need to sell and **** off
If he can get back to what he was pre-illness then they've had our pants down. If he can't then we've had their pants down. One of my favourite players of recent years. If he goes I'll particularly miss his upright running style and the fact he always tucked his shirt in. Looked like an RAF officer from the 1960s playing football.
Personally think we've sold him 700k too cheap, age, captain and length of contract. I conceed he's been poor but the sideways backwards style of play of the last 2 seasons hasn't helped combined with a long lay off through illness all that said he's still a £2m player for me. Wycombe have known our financial predicament probably and just kept nudging the bid up slowly until we accepted.
We haven't accepted a bid for him. https://barnsleyfc.org.uk/threads/w...llion-for-connell.337830/page-12#post-3473025
As some have said, if we could reach a deal of over 1.5 mill, with good add on extras, I think that would be acceptable. And I'm not interested in where he goes, whether its Wycombe or whoever.
