I'm not having a go at you with this as I genuinely don't think you meant anything by posting the video. I don't think you have any sort of agenda at all (unlike another contributor to this thread who clearly does).

It's just a question and it's more to think about, not to answer. There are hundreds of similar videos from the men's game. If you'd posted one of those, would you have labelled it 'Men's Football Gaffs'? If not, why not? And the flip side of that, why include the sex of the participants in the title of this thread? As I said, just questions, not accusations.

Wiegman's choice to go with Hampton over Earps has been vindicated I'd say, her distribution is a great tool.

Fair. Food for thought. I suppose it's just that to me I only distinguish as 'women's football', the mens game is just 'football'. Probably just my old school brain, as the women's game is the newer to me.

Like in golf, there's the US Open, but ours is just The Open.

Women’s football is in an interesting spot. I’m all for the development of the game and encouragement and increased accessibility- that’s fantastic.

What’s interesting is in the last 7-8 years just how much it’s been picked up, and in some ways kind of forced down your throat a bit. For example, many times when L1 or even the championship will be playing, there will be nothing on the BBC page about the men’s game, but a huge banner for the women’s game.

If I played for one of the L1 teams and that was the case, then I’d be pretty miffed tbh, because the standard of even L1 football is so superior. There are good women’s games, there are also a lot of bad bad women’s games. Essentially this is entertainment, and I don’t know why I would generally watch something which amounts to a pretty low general standard just because it’s women. That leads into the whole merit based argument…..it’s complex.

But tbh I don’t think women can have all the promotion they enjoy and not really expect these videos to crop up, it’s not like they’re lacking content.

You say that but I reckon the quality on show in the women's premier league much better than what was served up last season by mdg, earl, Lewis and Rodriguez

And yet I still turn up week after week to watch which amounts to a pretty low general standard just because it’s Barnsley

Yeah the men’s game does have a luxury of being crap and relying on its established nature, I’ll give you that.

But let’s be honest, any one of the players you mentioned would be far and away the best player in the world were they to play at that level in the womens game.

Disagree entirely. They'd be faster and stronger but skills wise, intelligence wise and regarding their ability to read a game of football they would be nowhere near the top women footballers

The main thing is that the recent rise in women's football has encouraged lots of young lasses to start playing and have a kick about. Got to be a good thing in of itself surely. Doesn't matter if women's football is crap or brilliant - if lasses enjoy it and in some cases make a living out of it all well and good.
And on another issue, I've watched so much kak men's football at Oakwell recently.....

Certainly, everyone should have the opportunity to get involved.

Here in LA we played a LGBTQ club that plays at a decent level, which is good to see. Not sure we’re quite there in England yet!

They'd get ridiculed by some mate. Some folk just like to ridicule and bully others. I think its insecurity missen.

I get what you’re saying about listings. I’ve commented in it before - why can’t I find league one results - they’re hiding behind a long list of Scottish games and Women’s games.

The idea of the Women’s Games being forced down everyone's throat is being widely peddled though. I just don’t get the problem. On most TVs these days there are over 200 other channels to choose from. Just watch something else.

TBF I’m mainly talking about the listing situation when looking for results. Stick as much as you want on TV for all I care!

I think this hits the nail on the head. Rather than letting it grow organically they’ve over promoted it & it’s rubbed people up the wrong way.

With some sports such as tennis the women’s game can even be more entertaining as you get a lot more rallies rather than the serve been the deciding factor but no matter what women do they will never be able to play at the same pace as the men, hit the ball as hard or be as physically big so you will always get ridiculous looking goals where shots go in nowhere near the corners of the goal.

But ultimately if you enjoy it just ignore what anyone else says. Some people love their non-league football. I’m not really interested in it. If I’m not watching Barnsley I like to watch the best standard of football so I tend to watch the premier league or champions league. I wouldn’t watch league one football if Barnsley weren’t in it.

If I’m being honest the only way I would ever watch much women’s football is if I had a personal interest like a daughter or niece that played but I’ve nothing against the girls playing. I hope they gradually better & that more countries take it seriously just don’t tell me they’ve ended 56 years of hurt by winning the women’s Euro’s.

It’s easy to look at things in a light hearted way when it doesn’t affect you. I’ve not watched the video, I’m sure it is funny, but the title could have been something other than just ‘women’s football’. There’s loads of videos of men making mistakes during a match, and I’m sure they’re funny too, but they’re not simply called ‘men’s football’. I’m sure you’d be annoyed if a Wednesday fan clipped up our mistakes over the years and called it ‘Barnsley Football Club’ saying ‘look at the quality on display here’. You’d know it was done through malice and intended as an insult, and you’d react as such. It’s not ‘let’s all laugh together’, it’s ‘let’s point and laugh at’ and Fired’s point is that it’s punching down when women were literally banned from playing.
