Disappointing the ammount raised considering the huge numbers that turned out for it. Here’s a message from the organisers. If anyone fancies chucking in some cash there a link below:

Sad that. Given how many attended. I couldn't be there. Donation on its way.

I think today's cashless society is one of the reasons for the low amount collected on the day, but hopefully this push will bump up the total

Nail on head' if we end up going cashless' events like this will be affected terribly' along with tipping the paperboy at xmas ' carboot sales and giving your kids something for some sweets. Its called progress apparently.

It's disappointing but cash is very tight for a lot of people and yes the music was free but drinks aren't cheap these days.

There seems a massive push from charities generally too. It's not uncommon to get 2 or 3 charities a week doorstepping us.

Perhaps the bars benefitting from a huge uptick in business might have considered being a bit more generous?

You could be right, but tbh, (and this might say more about me than anything else) I didn't know that Barnsley Live was associated with the air ambulance, and although I didn't go this year, I have in the past and I don't remember seeing easily recognisable donation stations or anybody shaking collection tins and encouraging chipping in. I could be completely wrong, but perhaps the charity aspect could have been more 'in year face'. My donation will be on its way when I finish work.

Its easy enough to get hold of some SumUp terminals and take card donations - or persuade people to sign up for a direct debit monthly payment. Perhaps more effort should go into that in future rather than buckets. I didn't go this year, but even if I had, I never carry cash.

They said they did have QR codes available, some on buckets I believe. It’s a great day out, wish some who go would appreciate it for what it really is ie a festival of music, largely local as well, instead of just a ‘piss-up’ The number of times I heard comments such as ‘ who are these lot, they ent played a song I know yit’ ‘ can’t hear missen talk here’ Just stay out of the pub/bar and make room for those that want to see and listen.

I didn't go, don't even live near Barnsley, but agree with what's said above. I very rarely have cash on me these days, often feel bad when approached by charity collections and I have to say no because I've got no cash.

It's for a different charity each year, and tbf they do push it on their socials a fair bit in the run up and on the day, but obviously not everyone does Facebook etc. I guess it's also so busy that sometimes the bucket collectors 'blend in' to the crowd a bit.

It can't be easy for the organisers who go above & beyond every year to put on fantastic event, my only comment would be to maybe make the QR code / donation link more obvious in each venue, eg a banner above or around the stage perhaps. Or maybe they actually did this and I was too busy enjoying the music / cold drinks to notice!

Are you being serious? If people are going to a free event put on for the benefit of a charity then donating should take priority over booze ffs.

@Gally - how much of their profits do the bars give to the charity?

If you go to a gig anywhere else you'd expect to pay. So, just pay summat!
Can't the boozers make occasional announcements? Can't the acts occasionally remind everyone? Can't the Chronicle remind everyone just before? Can't Barnsley council remind everyone in their newsletter?
Bottom line people could put a quid in but some folk need a prod....

Actually I believe they contribute a fair ammount to the running costs of the festival not sure about the charity.
One of the major beer suppliers was also a sponsor of the festival (Clarkes)

I live away from Barnsley now but glad to donate and would have done so if I had attended simply due to the fantastic job they do every day throughout the year. You never know when you or your family may need this service.
