Neighbour got message on phone giving details of how to apply for this years heating allowance - had to be done by 16 July.

Keyed in these details on her lap top -
Completed form headed 'GOV-UK' giving all details on her bank card - she showed me the form - looked very genuine.

Shortly afterwards the Bank contacted her about three payments from her account that were made to the same 'company' just after the form had been submitted.
She hadn't made these payments - she had been scammed - two of the payments were stopped by the bank one was pending. The 'pending' payment refunded. She will now be issued with a new credit card and pin number.

I had the same message yesterday. Looked very genuine until it got to the card details where it said ‘you will be charged £1 for account registration which will be refunded within 24 hours’. This set the alarm bells ringing so I stopped.
    Be careful out there folks.

I got one on my work phone yesterday, I thought it was our IT team trying to catch people and figure out who needs IT security training

I block senders with email addresses like that. My Junk folder gets half a dozen every day, mostly from online casinos which is odd because I have never used one. I just select all and block without opening any of them

The initial contact with my neighbour was a text to her phone.

I've had a similar scam by email, as has my wife. I knew instantly because I had read that nobody has to apply for the WFP, it's done automatically. Besides which, if you're using a laptop, when you hover the mouse over the link in the message, the web browser shows you the target URL. In this case it was blatantly obvious it wasn't the GOV.UK web site.

I would urge everyone to NEVER simply tap on a link on your phone or tablet unless you are 100% sure that it is genuine. Better still only use a laptop (or desktop PC) for anything where you enter your bank details.

    I hate touchscreen devices

I got a message saying I've got a parking fine to be paid 2 days later ( June 29th) and then a link to the Guv.uk. I knew it wasn't right but got confirmation when another text message came saying- pay it. They don't message yer,I've blocked them but how many vulnerable people will fall for it ?

Give me your bank account number, pin number and memorable date and I'll see what I can do.

I got scammed (paypal con.never used paypal since and trust bugger all without checking out thoroughly )and realised As soon as I looked at my aaccount. Just minutes after the conversation. What shocked me, was the bank who I rang straight away said they couldn't stop the payment even though it was still pending. And refunded me within a week. Bonkers.
I fekkin hate the ******* scam artists. Hope they crawl up and die and rot in hell.

I'd watch out for that scam about Wales claiming to have a national rugby union team.

    Wise Words From The Coach
Gatland had a quiet word with one of his Welsh players after a poor run of matches.

“Listen, I know what the problem is. Your performance always dips at the same point in every match.”

The player was relieved that the coach had figured it out. “When is it?”, he asked eagerly.

Gatland shook his head sadly. “Right after the supporters finish singing Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau.”
