I kind of get the gym bit, but I saw him win a lot of duals against seasoned L1 campaigners.

Am obviously in a group of one,

A Footballer that is neither quick nor physically strong will always struggle. Marry that with no positional sense and you have the ingredients for a disaster.

Ive said it numerous times that its MDG pace that let's him down.
When running/tracking back, he always throws the arm, across the attacking players chest which the attacking player takes advantage off and goes down like hes been shot. Referees see it as it is and classes it has a clumsy tackle, hence they stop the game, give the foul
if I'm not mistaken most of his bookings and his last red card came from this type of situation
Personally I'd play him in the mid field, because he has vision going forward holds the ball well and can lay off a good pass or two and does put a shift in gives 100% everytime he plays.
The down side of his game is certainly the lack of pace in one to one's
Totally agree that a lot have made him the scapegoat for our poor preformance last season, which is wrong, there were far worse, but his mistakes were costly at times.

I too said he should be released in a previous thread adding unless they move him to midfield ...he's a good lad too

Midfield is a good shout, and under Collins his marauding runs forward or quick pass support that theory.

He looks like a reasonable enough player all round for 95% of most games but he gifts the opposition at least one (often multiple) goalscoring chances in 75% of the games he plays. All players make mistakes, all players make the odd calamitous mistake, MDG makes dozens of catastrophic mistakes.

You could put together a lowlights real from last season of 30+ situations where he either put the ball into the back of his own net or he hands a goalscoring opportunity to the opposition on a plate. You can't carry a player who keeps doing that.

Exactly 95% and 75%. That’s the sort of factual stuff I like to see:rolleyes:

I’m surprised you’ve misunderstood that as me scapegoating him. It’s more a criticism of Hourihane if he’s going to play him there when he’s clearly unsuited (in my opinion) to the role.

I don’t particularly care whether the head coach thinks he’ll do a decent job there. The head coach played a ridiculous high line for the last 10 games & the defending was shambolic. Until he shows me something I’m not that trusting of his judgement. Maybe thats harsh but that’s how I feel right now.

You know, I do often wonder why the club doesn’t form a selection committee made up of people from the BBS and other social media. Something like Walter Winterbottom had that selected his team when he was England manager :)

It seems very odd for a person to use an online forum, designed pretty much exclusively to give contributors a platform on which to air and discuss opinions, to firstly not understand that it is opinions that are being expressed, and then attempt, somewhat clumsily, to belittle the contributors for putting their opinion forward, while not offering one of their own.

This really doesn't seem like the platform for you.

I get that, but there was a squad of 20 last year who I could put lowlights reels up for, most of which would probably lead to a goal against.

We could also do highlights reels; not for all the squad, but MDG would get one.

I do think he looks a decent player for the most part of most games. He's more comfortable on the ball than most centre halves at this level. I just think the 'big' mistakes happen too frequently.
