Post on twitter suggesting he’s joining Chelsea https://x.com/thedailytyke2/status/1947068494081618106?s=46
Fixed Compensation Under EPPP (Ages U9–U16). We're Category 2. Not sure if there's other factors which might affect payment. Under the Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP), compensation is calculated via a tariff based on age and the selling club’s academy category: Ages 9–11: ~£3,000 per year Ages 12–16: Category 1: ~£40,000/year Category 2: ~£25,000/year Category 3: ~£12,500/year For example, a 14-year-old who spent 6 years at a Category 3 club would earn: 3 years × £3,000 + 3 years × £12,500 = £46,500 These are fixed-year fees and are intended to simplify transfers at younger ages .
I wish him well too, but Chelsea? This has got "released at 19 having played 5 times for Chelsea U21 in the EFL Trophy" written all over it.
Another promising young player having his head turned by his new agent. He’ll go into the Chelsea academy as a small fish and be loaned out multiple times until spat out in 3 years, deemed not good enough.
Short term, it's probably a great move for him financially. For his longer term career, there's a reasonable chance it'll be an utter disaster.
And we pick up less than a weeks wage to one of Chelsea's first team, for bringing on a player for 8 years.
Probably one of the worst teams he could join, the amount of young players they've got on their books and send out on loan every season. As long as his new agent is happy.
More likely appointed his new agent with the intention of finding somewhere new. That’s usually the case with footballers moving clubs.
When he's older might wish he could turn back time and find a way to have a successful career in the football league.
We're a cat 2 academy, so from above..... 3x £3k + 5x £25k = £134k. Maybe his England record could push it up a bit, but we're not talking John Stones here.
Apparently he joined us when he was 9. So (2*£3,000) + (5*£25,000) = £131,000 Academy costs a couple of million per year to operate so we need to sell 15 Oliver Wilkinsons every season just to break even.
He’s likely going to be getting life-changing money on a super long contract at one of the biggest clubs in the world before his pro career has even begun. And there are some of you knocking him? Wow.
