As I've mentioned earlier, I think the scramble after a penalty is saved is a really exciting part of the game. Surely there are less radical ways of dealing with encroachment than completely changing the way penalties are taken? I was thinking about something like a pop-up tripwire around the D, which the ref can activate with a button on his whistle. I'm sure Adam Hinchcliff could draw up a prototype design quite quickly.
I don’t want the rule change but it would just presumably become exactly like a penalty in a shootout. You either score it with your chance or you don’t. Rather than it going to the opposing team’s turn in a penalty shootout it just restarts the game as a goal kick. Edit: just finished reading the thread and saw Jay already mentioned this.
The problem with referees and we all know it, is the lack of consistency, in not only their own performances but their fellow colleagues At times its like watching rugby in the box, with all the pushing pulling and dragging that goes off. Unlike rugby, the players have no respect for the ref. The sooner the refs clamp down on players and their attitudes the better Going back to when I was playing Sunday league, I recall the ref sending off one of my team mates for what he deemed a bad foul. In all fairness it was a 50/50 ball, both players went full in, unfortunately at the very last second the oppositions player for some unknown reason only to himself froze and a split second later found himself flying up it the air as my team mate came away with the ball The noise of the impact on the ball contributed to the sending off, im sure and influenced the referees decision it was no worse than what had taken place previously durring the game. It didn't in my opinion and other players on both sides warrant a sending off In fact I was very verbal about it and ran up to the referee stating ...if that was a foul I will plait snot The ref replied Well in that case lad, you can plait snot, sat watching the game and sent me off too. It went down as aggressive behaviour toward the referee, can't remember what but I did get fined Needless to say nobody argued with him the rest of the match or games later when he was in charge.
