Thought he looked assured and composed. Can’t believe he got booked for being pinned to the floor. Just wrong. A big miss when Roberts also likely to be missing.
He’s going to be a real asset this season. I’m calling now that we won’t see another more unfortunate two yellows and a red this season. He did have a couple of wobbly moments but all in all v.impressed
Ha we're Barnsley, remember. Being on the wrong side of League 1 referees is our thing. Expect a penalty given to Burton
Agreed - Shep made 2/3 really dodgy passes first 15 minutes, but after that, I thought he was really good. Good passing, composure top notch, wasnt scared about putting his body on the line. Hopefully be a very good player for us this season!
Thought he looked far from composed but actually nervous. Did alright but Earl who did look composed and assured did better with the pressure on.. That much so I"d expect Earl to keep Shepherd on the beach after his suspension..
Two very debatable yellows for me, but Shep didn't help himself by committing what I think has become an acceptable cardinal sin for a defender, he turned his back to the ball. Okay, you might not get the balloon (that passes for a ball these days) in the nuts, but also you can't see what's happening. In the case of yesterday, I think the act of turning his back swung his arm away from his body and cleared the way for the ref to book him.
I thought he should have won the first ball for their goal but he was steady enough' both yellows were really poor decisions.
Having seen the highlights, I sort of get the first yellow, the ref might not have seen the Weirdo lying on and preventing Shep from getting up and only saw them wrestling, so showed them both yellow. The Handball was ridiculous, the ball was blasted at him from a yard and he was turning away. No way was it a deliberate handball, in fact I don't think it was even punishable with a free kick. I suspect that if the ref had remembered that Shep was already booked, he would have just had a word and not produced the card.
In my opinion that makes the first even worse. If you haven't seen something you can't just guess and make a game changing decision. He didn't see shepherd do anything wrong because he didn't do anything wrong so his wrong decision was appalling
Me anall, but it makes a mockery of yellow cards. It either is or it isn't, regardless of what's gone on before.
Regarding the first, the lesson to learn is to be smarter as a team in those situations. Shep is being pinned down; don't rush over and pull the opposition away, creating a melee. Just alert the officials and get the other correctly sent off.
Shepherd looks like a solid defender but still think all our centre half’s lack real pace which will make it even more crucial for Cooper to act as a sweeper keeper this season and he did it well yesterday.
I thought he did well apart from a couple of stray passes but he made up for them. First yellow was a joke of a decision. Second was also very harsh in my opinion. He did have his arms up but their player blasted it from about 2 yards away.
He's quite strong and good in the air but he's got no pace, his distribution isn't the best and he gets injured a lot
