I'm being optimistic! Could be much less than that, but if it is we'll need to offload someone else as well.
Obviously, there are a lot of variables at play, but for me, the ideal scenario would be to sell one player this window — preferably Russell, given he’s only got a year left — and another in the winter window, perhaps Phillips or Connell? That would give us a better chance to manage the transition effectively. Ideally, we’d keep all of them, but if, as the owners suggest, sales are necessary, then this feels like the most balanced approach — assuming the need to sell isn’t absolutely immediate.
The other benefit to this is that it allows us to adjust. If we happen to be in a strong position in the automatics come January then we might decide to roll the dice and not sell, gambling on future championship money. If the season's already petering out into a mid table finish then there's less harm in taking the cash and looking ahead to next season.
If we're after promotion we need to keep all our best players and add to the squad. The Premiership squads will be announced soon.
If Brittain has signed for Boro for a reported £3.5m with a year left. Who knows. ?. If he does well this season he can then leave for nowt btw. I'd love us to tie him down longer if possible. (Unlikely imo as his stock is rising)
The 72 are reporting that we've inquired about Terry Taylor. He's a midfielder at Charlton (was on loan at Northampton last season) and I think we might have been interested in him when he was at Burton. link
We were linked last summer I believe. He's another I suggested at the start of the summer. We're quite stacked in midfield though. Charlton fans seemed quite upset that he wasn't given much chance last season, as when he played, he did well for them. Then he went to Northampton and their fans loved him.
