Just watched a fascinating video/report on Youtube about Reform and Lincolnshire. By Novara media who I'm not usually a fan of but there is an interview with the Unite Union Rep at Scunthorpe Steelworks about the near closure and Reform's "involvement" in supporting the nationalisation. Well worth a listen: Should be timestamped at 26 minutes when the Scunthorpe Steel segment starts:
I believe that we can no longer sustain our current social model. Politicians are still trying to tell us, and maybe themselves, that they can change things, that they hold agency in the modern world, I don't believe that is true anymore. The forces at work are beyond control, out of control even. Social cohesion relies on a collective story of who we are and why we are, this has become so atomised that no one recognises those stories or histories or models in a collective way anymore. It's gone, killed by what? A thousand cuts, not one blow, its not Farage's fault, but he is there to tell his story and have us believe that he can change things, he can't, no more then any of them can. We fkd it.
I don't know if anyone else is noticing the dog whistles are getting more sinister. The 'Reform' message is now about a 'crisis' not just the gibberish they usually spout, but wider law and order. The next step on the true conversion from populism to fascism. The faux attempt to hide their flagrant misogyny and be worried about women on the street. The typography is now bolder, darker. Warning colours. Black, white, yellow. No hint of light blue on the daily back drop as they aim to instil fear into the nation, or at least the ones susceptible. Migrants are no longer people looking to work here, they are would be criminals. Rapists in waiting. The media do little to counter. Do nothing to correct the mistruths, do nothing to push for detail as to how they'd tackle these alleged crises they fan the flames of. They interview their ilk to normalise. "Too many foreigners" they claim. Not even asylum seekers. Foreigners. The media is neck deep in the fascist rise. And will complain should media censorship follow. Deeply worrying times.
Yeah the total absence of reporting that Migrant hotel numbers are down by 15% this year. The obsession with small boats which is less than 5% of migration into the UK and absence of focus on actual immigration issues. The fear mongering about 0.5% of UK millionaires leaving the UK - and failure to report that almost none of them had any employees or paid a proportionally fair share of tax. Its just become standard practice to stir **** up. Fear sells, and the media are just as addicted to it as politicians.
Yo be fair over 25k have crossed the channell this year so far. Record breaking stuff by starmer. There also planning on expanding the raf Base they wanted the Tories to stop housing migrants in.
Precisely. The hard of thinking will ignore returns agreements, changes to laws taking time, a reduction in hotels being used, a speeding up of claims being processed. They'll just focus on crossings being up slightly given the incredibly pond like state the channel has been for much of this year and ignore that the world is eating itself from Myanmar to Syria to Ukraine to Congo and obviously, the loony bin the other side of the Atlantic. The whistle blows, the dogs react.
To be fair. Thats not what i said. I didn't say there are no problems. What you're saying is being constantly reported. Any perspective that doesn't immediately generate anger/fear and cause morons to shout at Hotels and vote for/line the pockets of grifters goes totally unreported. Responding to posts asking for a more positive approach and more perspective, with yet more negativity is exactly why the grifters who caused most of this are taking over.
I dont normally have a pop at folks for being disingenuous but how is this Starmer's fault? I detest 'honest' Keir with a vengeance believe me but to suggest this is Starmer's fault is more loony than a loony man from loonyshire. Its no more Starmer's 'fault' than it was Sunaks, Johnson's, May's or Cameron's. Its a complicated issue of course and it does get politicised by people trying to score points e.g Farage but blaming Starmer is a red herring of whale proportions. Slag Starmer off for summat else and Ill probably agree with you...
The fault lies firmly at the fagash fuhrer’s door and his endorsement of Brexit. However, he will never admit that as he’s only got hate and lies in his repertoire
I think that's an unnecessarily bleak assessment. All of us have some agency for change - both positively and negatively. Whilst I agree with your statement that Farage can't fix our country (he'll destroy it more likely), I believe some politicians who have the proper motivation can improve things for all of us. The current lot, can improve things for us, indeed they are are our last hope, the alternative doesn't bear thinking about.
Not directly his fault, although when his pledge was to smash the people smugglers and stop the small boat crossings it's another thing he has failed on.
Reform and right wing messaging has pivoted heavily to be around taxes. We all know that’s the only thing these millionaires care about and all the rest is a front for their money making. They must feel now is the right time to put their actual plan into play.
Well because racheal and kier have u turned on everything including welfare reforms. We now have a 42billon pound black hole, I'll be lucky if I live long enough to retire or see a state pension, we're getting taxed to death, rents and cost of living going up, small business taxes up, wonder where the 42 billion pound will come from? I'd guess taxes on the working man.
Sorry, but you’re brain washed beyond belief. Please research the Tufton Street set up that has increasingly pushed its way into mainstream media.
You do realise they’re wanting to cut taxes for themselves, not a few pence off the pounds you pay? If you do get any slight savings it will be more than used up having to pay for healthcare and the like that they will cut to the bone. You think the party that is against tax is going to give you a pension? That’s far too much like socialism.
He'd say what he says to cover every potential tax cut and cost increase. "Scrap net zero" (Net zero is primarily paid for by private companies)
Net zero is paying for itself, cheaper energy alone will pay for it in the long term. We should immediately break the link between electricity and gas prices - currently our electricity tariffs are fixed by the most expensive method of generation; gas. This is a direct result of privatisation and is designed to allow power generation from gas to be viable in the market. This means that generators from cheaper sources make bigger profits, which mostly go abroad. We should nationalise power generation and charge the customer what it actually costs to generate, all our bills would be halved.
