Blackpool now splashing £1m on Dale Taylor from Forest by sounds of things. Cash thrown about by L1 clubs this summer is staggering. We're definitely poor relations even in the third tier these days.
3 years ago ago it felt like we were one of the big hitters in league one but like I’ve said before the so called smaller clubs have not only caught us up but they’ve overtaken us and we can’t compete with them financially.
The sustainable route is still costing us millions each season and time and patience is something unfortunately we don’t get in football .Don’t know the answer for us but bearing in mind our record transfer fee is still £1.5mill for Hristov nearly thirty years ago I’m not expecting us to be throwing the cash and rightly so at league one level I’m just worried we could be left behind.
If we get the right players in, then I've no issue with how much we spend. I know people went on about the amount of money were losing, but it's the same for every club. We're in a better position than most in this league, financially... And we're not likely to jeapardise that by spending over the odds for players, when we've shown so far that there are plenty of free agents in the market who can do the job.
Wendy spent millions on players and wages. They cant afford. Took em a couple of yrs to get back to the championship. (With help from the ref.) Look where that's got em now. 16 players in the squad apparently (inc.1 goalie) and a couple of those put in requests to cancel contracts. Blackpool sold Rob Apter in July for apparently £2.5m by one source btw. (Undisclosed via club sources) With 2yrs left on his contract. Spent apparently circa £1.6m on 2 players. Rest i believe are loans and frees. Quids in I reckon. If all figures are thereabouts.
I wasn't saying that we should splash money at all. Just pointing out how difficult it's going to be for us to get out of this league with very little spend. Be some achievement to even get near the play offs this season.
Spot on mate. Add Phillips & Russell into the equation and that accounted for over 60 goals last season.
Because from L1 down and into non league you can buy your way out.. Very difficult in the champ, you can easily lose your shirt chasing the dream. In L1 if a decent recruitment team and headcoach had 20 million to spend what a team you could build..
McGoldrick is a class act, no doubt. He's 37 though so his playing time will have to be managed. He's not going to be playing week in week out for sure. Another decent CF is a must.
Yeah agree and i wouldn’t mind another striker who’s knocking on a bit if I’m honest because i think experience is everything in this league.
Unless we lose DKD I think we can mange without another striker but another body would be nice not essential.
McGoldrick is almost 38 and even if DKD were to stay he could always get injured or suspended. We definitely need another CF.
