    The Reds are pleased to announce the signing of midfielder Voldi Mbaya and forward Lewis Gould, who will join up with the U21s.

    Mbaya put pen to paper after leaving South Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday at the end of last season. The towering midfielder has impressed on trial with Barnsley throughout the summer.

    The 18-year-old, who grew up in Leeds, joined Sheffield Wednesday at U15s level following time with grassroots outfit Hunslet Club.

    He later signed an apprentice contract at Hillsborough in August 2023, which led him to play for the U18s.

    Gould enters Oakwell after first-team experience in non-league at Crawley Down Gatwick.

    In the 2024-25 season, the forward scored 21 goals and created 20 assists across 50 matches.

    The 19-year-old has also played for Crawley Town Community Foundation and was selected to play for the National Football Youth League South All-Stars team at St. George's Park.

    Shepherd came from Pontefract Col and although he was sent out on loan for a couple of seasons l think he could av done a job here earlier.
