I see the player really wants to take this further, and wants the FA to get tougher on this sort of thing. And he's right of course, because in this day and age, nobody should have to put up with this. The Liverpool "fan" who did it will probably try to make excuses etc, which is pathetic. Should we go all the way now with prison sentences, for this sort of public abuse ?. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/c0kz2gpgyngo
There's no room in prisons. I'm not sure it warrants that either. A large fine, community service, and banned from football grounds for life.
Its gets to the stage though doesn't it, where there's a cut off point, and examples have got to be made, as a deterrent. I'm not sure either if it warrants that sort of punishment, but it doesn't look like its ever going to stop!.
It’s been going on for decades and will go on indefinitely. No amount of knee taking or public address appeals will stop it. I think it’s actually going to get worse as time goes by
I fear it’s gonna get worse imminently. The ugly face of Reform and right-wing media is actively enabling it, and it’s starting to get traction.
Agree. There were even people on here trying to make excuses for the woman calling for people to burn hotels full of asylum seekers.
Shouldn't be thrown in jails*. As stated above, fines, community service & bans. I get called right wing for it but I do think only words calling for action deserve imprisonment. Unfortunately, there will always be racists. Xenophobes. Homophobes, etc. *Unless you're called Tommy Robinson then throw him in
I genuinely don't think that makes a blind bit of difference though. Haven't fines and bans and community services, been used as punishments for ages now though. And I can certainly understand the idea of wanting something more serious, as a short sharp shock type thing.
What!!. Who says that ridiculous stuff by the way Frog, that its 'right wing' to think like that. Which it most definitely isn't!.
To be fair mate its usually Internet folk who claim it. Usually around racist/far right name calling (which is understandable but still I think too far for jail), but I've even seen people suggest people should be arrested for calling people fat, slag, whore, saying t-/ranny instead of transgender. Pretty much all vile stuff ofcourse but from my perspective, not appropriate
I wasn't around when hooliganism and racism was a really prominent thing in football bud, but I know it was normal for even fans of their own players to do monkey sounds etc. Its obviously nowhere near as bad these days but I don't think there's really any other option but to continue what we try and do with fines and bans etc right now. More cameras and microphones to capture it for evidence but as far as punishment goes, not sure
This always reminds me of the untrue sentence.. "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but calling names won't hurt me!". Well surely that is wrong isn't it. Because any disgusting comments based on colour and sex and size and looks, are just unacceptable. That might be correct actually though, that prisons are full enough these days, without trying to use them as a punishment for this sort of thing. But as for what else can we do to put a stop to it, I'm not sure either.
It's like every thing else these days in the justice system there's no deterrent Prison at one time was considered shameful the lowest of the low, these days its seen by too many as a badge of honour same with community service. You've only got to look in someone's direction and the shout of disrespect gets thrown about I don't know what the answer is before anyone asks, other than major educational changes need to take place in an out dated system but then again that's never going to happen the powers to be are happy with the status quo
I think society in general has taken a massive downturn which is more obvious since the lockdown ended. Queue jumping, Driving, Parking, Normal please and thank you manners, Even walking along the street ya get evils if someone has to step aside..The good old days of kids being brought up to at least be aware of other people have gone..Watched a woman in her 30's stop the entire rush hour at penny pie park when she stopped her car on the Dodworth rd section to let the kids out for school..while the lights were green...Bugg*r everyone else it's about me...Sadly not only the younger end, the abuse from pensioner's parking like idiots for the Post office at Pogmoor is unbelievable..Sadly this trickles down and we have keyboard warriors and social media spewing abuse. Btw was the guy abusing Semenyo in a wheelchair or is the clip I saw another fake.
I don't think that's necessarily true. There'll always be rose tinted spectacles for the good old days. I haven't necessarily noticed a huge change but I think it depends what you look for. If you expect folk to behave a certain way then that's what you see.
Interesting thoughts there Helen and demonstrates why it's good on here to see other opinions. I mostly look for the good in people and spent most of my career as a Manager of large groups of employees. Growing up around Lundwood we dint have Rise tinted glasses because somebody had nicked em ( stereotypical..soz) Maybe the car thing is because there are more cars and also some years back no Social media. I think daily life seems more stressful in general than even 10 or15 years ago..Or perhaps I'm just an moaning old git now...but there'll always be BFC..
