I agree about domestic solar, but the orientations and pitches of a roof have to work. And you’d hope new builds would have suitable pitches and orientations to allow that, even if retrofitted. And yes, it’s what we do with windows and shutters. Closed all day, open all evening. The galling thing I noted, we must have seen maybe 30 houses, maybe more and I’d say 75% of them had upgraded their heating system… to incorporate a wood burner. Grim.
Trees collect CO2. So not only are trees being chopped down for you to burn, which has its own impact, when you burn wood, all the CO2 that was collected by that tree is released into the atmosphere again.
Seriously? Burning wood creates carcinogenic particulates that cause cancer. Burning anything is bad if you breathe it in. Just opening it after use will release carcinogens into a closed space. I find it incredible that’s not more widely known, let alone the environmental impact.
We should all know the impact coal had on breathing given our heritage, obviously everyone knows cigarettes are a direct cause of lung cancer. Fumes from cars contribute to a number of illnesses. Our lungs aren’t designed to breathe in impurities. A wood burner is just another thing to pollute air. Open the door of it, see how long it takes to pollute a closed room and how long til it makes you cough.
It’s carcinogenic. This study looked specifically at women but found it increases risk of lung cancer by 43%, raising to 68% if used more than 30 days a year. https://www.theguardian.com/environ...d-burning-raises-women-lung-cancer-risk-study

There is a vast amount of evidence that wood burners are the most polluting form of home heating since coal fires were phased out. Wood burners and air pollution | Clean Air Hub
True....I'm not advocating wood burning here, but it needs to be borne in mind that the tree doesn't store and eradicate Co2 forever, when it dies naturally the Co2 is released back into the atmosphere.
Not a problem as all those wood burner folk will use on seasoned logs as is the requirement. I bet the guy near me who was advertising pallets suitable for log burners will have no takers.
