No one was better. Cauley is pretty easily the best in living memory and a proper team player who played wherever managers wanted him

Yeah but that didn't matter, because Moncur was poor for us and wanted out.

We noticed Phillips clapping and waving to fans at full time yesterday, walking pretty much full length of east stand - noticeably closer than the rest of the players. We thought it might have looked like a bit of a goodbye.

Can anyone say if that is normal for him?

Fingers crossed it is - he's had a great start to the season - and hopefully we're just suffering from paranoia :D

Woodrow was a top league 1 striker back in the day under Stendel.
He was poor in the championship though, although he was played out of position a lot to make up for his lack of pace. I liked him up until his last season for us where he clearly couldn’t be arsed & downed tools. He was past it then, even more so now, & I wouldn’t sign him if we were National league!

Not sure why you keep referring to stats. I’ve not even mentioned how many goals he actually scored.

I’m basing my opinion on what I saw alongside what the team achieved whilst he was here. As explained previously.

I said he’s the best striker we’ve had in modern times. Let’s call it 20 years. I don’t think that’s a crazy idea.

Unless I’ve missed a succession of top class forwards, I think there’s only Sam Winnall who could rival him for that honour. But he only played for four months in the second tier. Cauley did three seasons at that level.

Kieffer Moore? Did little in the second tier for us. Definitely had a better post-BFC career. As has Ivan Toney and Chris Wood. He was great for half a season in the third division, but Woodrow and Winnall did more.

Who else would be a contender? Danny Nardiello? Paul Hayes? Marc Richards? Kayode Odejayi? Craig Davies? Daryl Dike for a few months?

See what I’m saying? Cauley has been our best striker in modern times, best since Bruce Dyer probably.

Anyway, this thread isn’t about him. I apologise for having the cheek to think our best striker in the last 20 years would be an improvement on our current understudy striker, Mr Nobody. :D

edit - I forgot Carlton Morris. Wasn’t here long enough but I’d have him third behind Cauley and Sam. Loved Carlton. And he’s gone on and done brilliantly since leaving. Which Woodrow admittedly hasn’t done. But I’m only bothered about what they did here, for us.

edit 2 - also forgot McBurnie, I’d stick him in the Dike category, and Devante Cole who didn’t really do it in the second tier.

Do Danny Wilson and Mick Harford still play for them ?.
Wilson could replace Phillips, and Harford could be our present day version of Aylott lol.
A big ugly (I mean really very ugly) number 9. :D

I’ve not read the whole thread so apologies if this has been said already.

If Luton are offering £3m plus upfront and he wants to go, let him. We were always going to lose one of the better players this window.
With some of the money offer Russell a new contract.
We also have Kelly, who is looking very promising.

We need to strengthen at centre half and centre forward so it might be for the best?

I thought he was on his way to being shot to pieces, in that last year/15 months with us.
Why should we want to bring him back, and would he also want to.

Just checked, Dyer scored 57 league goals for us, 9 of those were in the 90s, so 48 in the 2000s. Woodrow got 46 in total, so it's Dyer.

Be gutted if we sell Phillips to Luton. He’s looked great so far this season, working his nads off for the team. Conor is a brilliant mentor for him and he looks like he’s actually enjoying his football again.
At the end of the day though they’ll probably double his wages. Roll on 7pm tomorrow and him still be a BFC player. Fingers crossed…..

Cauley scored 53 times for us between 2018 and 2022.

    So it’s Cauley.

I reckon we can still class Bruce Dyer has being in modern era myself, I liked Woodrow I really did but no way was he as good a striker as Bruce Dyer mate

I'll let you count Bruce's cup goals and add them on and come back and tell us all who it actually is. I'll give you a big clue, it's Bruce.

Yes he was poor for us but it was daft selling him to them. He scored at least one goal I can recall that turned a draw for them into a win.

I still think though, that us selling him to them, had nothing to do with us not winning the league.

TBF though, Mads had been unlucky with injuries since they signed him.
