Joint highest scoring team in the division, goals weren't an issue last season either, we have a team full of goals DKD, Didzzy, Vickers, Phillips, Russell. It's the other end that's the issue.
I'm very happy with the business done since the end of last season. I think it is undeniable that we have a significantly stronger squad than that which finished last season, and, in view of the fact that we have spent little, if anything at all, on transfer fees, I don't see how any criticism, on this occasion, can be fairly directed at the recruitment team. It is clear that Conor has had a big part to play, far bigger than his predecessors, in the changes to the squad, but Mladen and others have obviously done their best to give him what he wanted.
I would have liked another striker, but, in view of our budget restrictions, good strikers are very hard to secure. Every club is looking for them.
Just feels we need to keep our fingers crossed and pray DKD and McGoldrick stay healthy at least until January
I’d be willing to take a punt on him though. If the wages weren’t outrageous. Plus his dad is a legend.
I agree re Russell. He's certainly got an eye for goal, is very unflustered when he gets a chance and is excellent in the air. Admittedly, he clearly looks to be more of an attacking midfielder, but, we have far more alternative options in midfield than we have in the striking department. As I have remarked before, Russell is too good a player to be languishing on a League One bench. He needs to move around a bit more, for sure, but it would be interesting to see how he performed as a striker. As you say, it may be worth experimenting with him in that role.
He's certainly a good player, but, unlike Russell, he hasn't yet supplied any evidence that he's a good finisher.
