Wonder if he said I'd rather keep Phillips and risk it until Jan. Or he might have **** your new signings im playing Farrell up there. We just don't know.
If both stay fit and in form mate it’ll look like a masterstroke. You can never have too many options. We all know this. That position wins you games. The squad assembled so far is decent. I’m gutted tonight that they’ve not got a striker over the line. I honestly believed that having 3x really good options would push us on. I’d hazard a guess that most clubs in L1 will have more options and cover than us in that area.
I think relying on a 38 year old forward with little cover is an absolutely massive gamble. Conor clearly was hoping for b another option. Still probably best to wait and get someone you want rather than just taking anyone to fill out numbers
They really haven't though. There have been many many occasions over the last few seasons that the board have deserved criticism. This window isn't one of them. Your post and many others from the usual suspects that have popped up over the last couple of hours just smacks of being desperate to moan about something because you can't moan about the club selling DKD, Philips, Connell etc
Farrell isn’t ready and Jalo is still out for some time yet, plus I’m not even sure he’s good enough either. Cleary also looks raw and inconsistent. If we’re serious about having a tilt at promotion there’s no denying we’re short on proper options. Can’t believe we’ve had three transfer windows and still not signed a striker to replace Cole. Can’t imagine Conor is very happy.
Why are people saying Cleary can play striker ? has he played it before or is it because he’s a bit chunky!
In the 1950s the ‘Magnificent Magyars’ played with a number 9, Hidegkuti, behind two midfielders Puskas and Koscis. They put six passed England in 1953 without a recognised centre forward. You play a system that suits the players you have available. Sometimes it does no harm to do things differently.
Mate, I’m frustrated because I know it could push us on. They’ve obviously tried to get McAtee in which suggested they wanted to strengthen in that area. I’m not suggesting Cosgrove or Watters is ideal. What we have tho is 2x great options to play there. Imagine having 3x They’ve not just had today tho to do this. At some point this season we will need back up to play in that area. It’s a given. As I’ve touched on earlier, the window has been a good one. It could have been a great one.
I’m fed up of covering this comment. I’m not suggesting the cover the past 3x seasons were any good. I’m suggesting that as a squad, we’ve always had 4x strikers. They had a chance to rectify the cover tho this season. We start the first season in 4x seasons with only 2x strikers. Those two strikers are fantastic options but both start atm too which leaves us with nothing on the bench. Imagine having 3x fantastic options. I’ll put money on that the 3x teams to go up will have more options than us up top during the season. Imagine DKD is injured for a game or two and Didzy is blowing out of his arse up top and you look to the bench while 2-1 down and you put who on??? This will happen at some point this season.
I think there’s no outcry because we have lots of goals in other positions, and have had for a few seasons. DKD, Russell & Phillips bagged around 45 goals between them last season, the problems been keeping them out at the other end. Someone was slating Phillips as idle at Wimbledon, and some have been saying DKD isn’t suited to the new shape, but here they are, scoring and assisting in a very cohesive midfield and attack. I like what we’re trying to do. Everyone’s involved and we’re not reliant on one player, so the opposition is kept guessing for the most part.
I said the same about an hour ago, but having thought about it that only becomes effective when Conor drops one to the bench otherwise both could get injured in the same game, neither are getting rested and we have no option off the bench.
It’s a hard sell though for an out and out striker when we only play with one up top. I’d imagine Didzy would have been signed on the basis he’d be first choice, otherwise at his age I imagine he’d have gone elsewhere for first team football. I doubt teams higher up the pyramid would be happy to loan a prospect out to sit on the bench and only start in low priority cup games and come on for the last 10 mins of each game - they’d want them playing all the time like Vickers is. Which then leaves players that other clubs don’t really want, like McAtee. Again they’d be wanting first team football as why swap one bench for another? Or potential of getting lower league players happy to sit on the bench at a bigger club, but it’s a gamble of if they’d be good enough, like Dallas and Shaw. So we are down to prospects like Cleary, Jalo (when fit) Farrell and Graham - and what’s point in getting numbers in if they are no better then what we have?
Yes….but so far this season Didzy and DKD have started all the games. On the bench we’ve no cover. We throw a winger on and Didzy comes off while DKD then goes central (bar the Hudds game where they switched roles) You can’t keep doing this all season. For me, both should start the game. Our strongest XI has them both in it. It still leaves us with no cover on the bench hence why I’m annoyed at the situation.
I dont know why you keep pretending mcgoldrick isnt a striker mate when hes played there hundreds of times in his career. DKD also did exceptional there last season. We are talking as though both are out for months. If McG gets injured then DKD will play there and Cleary out wide.
As much as everyone would have liked another striker, it’s also worth noting we’ve scored 11 goals in the first 6 games and no team has scored more. It’s not like people can say we don’t have goals in the team.
