If that putin comes round our end trying to rape bears, I’ll be like “ oy putin NO, you may be a totalitarian lunatic in your own country, but we don’t touch our animals that way here. Now get your stumpy carcass back to the urals and hide in a big wooden doll inside another one until you get one your size”

I had a vivid dream about Putin during lockdown.

I was at some work conference. At the break I was talking to someone, then stepped back and trod on someone’s foot. I turned round to see it was Putin. He gave me that stare. I apologised and he left the room but stopped in the doorway to stare at me again. That night me and Mrs Statis were in bed at this venue when I woke up and knew someone was in the room. Looking across I could see a figure in a suit. Putin. He put something on the shelf above the fireplace and left. I got up to find it was a nuclear weapon in the shape of a giant egg timer. Of course I told the hotel staff who got the army in who confirmed the bomb was live and when it went off (at 8pm) it would destroy the whole country. I decided there was no escape so went for a walk in garden with Mrs Statis who asked me what I’d like as a last meal. I then found myself on a red mobility scooter on Brighton seafront eating a ham and cheese croissant. I went back to my room and sat in front of the egg timer bomb and called my brother. It was a video phone so I could see him as I called. He was standing outside the ruins of the Portcullis listening to the cricket on a transistor radio. I asked whether he’d heard the news. “Yeah good luck with that one" he replied. “You’ll be first cos it’s in your room”. He then left as he had to get a steak and kidney pie from the Rob Royd farm shop before the end of the world. I sat by the bomb as the timer approached a few seconds to 8pm.

Then I woke up. Never been reight since.

Made me laugh watching the Nuclear war film Threads when Sheffield gets a Russian makeover, one of the Dee Dars said to his neighbour that he was off to Lincolnshire the day before the bombs dropped because there's nothing there to bomb. No nowt at all apart from RAF Waddington RAF Connigsby RAF Cranwell and RAF Scampton was operational then too.

Not suggesting it will necessarily materialise. We all have to hope that sanity will always prevail. But I do think there's solid reason to believe preparations are being made. Suggestions are that the US Military are currently at DEFCON 3 (not that this is ever publicly disclosed).

The obvious thing is that despite sanctions and efforts to cripple Russia, they are actively on a war footing. They are producing deadly drones on a vast scale. They are still selling oil and gas to states that want it or can't afford to wean themselves off it.

It shows that the state going into intensive industrial activity can stimulate it's own economy.

Having said that, they are throwing so much at Ukraine and making only nominal inroads, losing huge amounts of troops to death and injury. That inspite of the US hugely hindering Ukraines defensive efforts.

This should prove that Russia would struggle to tackle NATO in it's current guise. Let alone as it gears up it's own defensive production, which is happening.

The difficulty is knowing just what China will do given it's own expansionist cravings and the constant irrational curve ball of the orange one. A blustering coward. One second deferring to Putin, the next squealing into the social media ether that he's not helping him get a nobel peace prize.

WW3, who knows. What I do know is that I've never seen this escalation in so many areas before. Whether it's realisation of the impact climate change has had and will have on redrawing hospitable land boundaries, or it's just coincidence that so many lunatics have come to the party in positions of power all at once.

    Frightening times.

It feels a bit mad saying this but I think China might be the ones holding it all together at the minute.

Actual front line fighting troops....we have c 30k....barely enough to fill some third division football grounds.
The plan for Nato, up to the fall of the Berlin Wall, was for the German Bundeswehr to block the Warsaw Pact advance through Central and Eastern Europe buying time for the American and British ground forces in Europe to reach the front. France couldn't be relied on as they refused direct Nato control. Unfortunately the Germans virtually abandoned defence commitment after 2000 and have left a huge gap in ground troops. The only Nato states that have large ground forces are Poland and Turkey.

Watched a video on YouTube about China's 10 deadliest weapons, it stated that they could take out America in 1/2 an hour, unbelievable the weapons they have.

Was thinking that myself. This whole area is awash with RAF bases.
