Sorry if this has been debated elsewhere but I’m in Egypt with intermittent wifi access.

But Fulham have reportedly rejected a bid from Birmingham for Jay Stansfield - for £10million.

They’ve already spent about £15million too.

How on earth is that possible under profit and sustainability rules in league one? Surely they are under the microscope?

Have no issue with bigger clubs paying more money out if they have it - but that’s just blatant cheating of the system.

SCMP limits spending on player wages to a percentage of club Turnover. In League 1 clubs can spend a maximum of 60% of their turnover on wages - in League 2, the limit is 55%. There are no restrictions (in themselves) on the amount a club can lose or spend on transfer fees.
Also If I remember rightly. if wages exceed the limit. Contracts signed in the championship have to be honoured. So giving breathing space in effect. We were in the same position when we got relegated. Tiz why we got shut of big earners to fall within the rules. And one of the main reasons directors pumped a lot of their own money into the club.

Thought relegated clubs had one or two years grace post relegation?

Only in relation to player contracts they are already committed to.

It’ll be very interesting if they don’t get out of league one at the first attempt.

If they miss out on promotion it could be hot water for them

There will be some pressure on if results don't show up pretty quickly.

Apparently 15million guaranteed with a potential 5m in add ons. Nothing personal to Stansfield, but I hope he gets injured all season.

If they want to pay £10m+ for a player who has scored 12.goals in the championship then let them crack on.

Transfer fees aren't exactly relative. I'd have bet that if any other League 1/Championship team wanted him, they'd have got him for less than 5.

Birmingham moneybags are going to massively overpay for average players. If he's worth 10m with his record then Woodrow was a snip at what we paid for him and people on here wouldn't take him back on loan.

They'll win the league I've no doubt but they're buying players at over inflated prices that won't be good enough in the league above.

Previous League 1 record for any player was Will Grigg, £2.5m back in 18/19.

Birmingham have broken that record three times so far spending a combined total of around £22m on those 3 players. Them they've bought another 3 players at a cost of about £5m, so they're slightly short of spending £30m.
