None of our fans should be paying £28 £25 for 1887 Members, Supporters Trust Members and Season Ticket Holders. or just £14.56 for them that bought a season ticket.
I agree Gally, £25 should be the max paid by home supporters. However that is if you fancy 2 trips to Oakwell every time you wanna go ...or a 90 minute 'hang around' near the ground on matchdays. Mr Rowing knows for a fact a lot of people cannot be ars.ed doing two trips or the lengthy wait on matchdays and therefore he knows a lot of people will end up paying the full whack. The original poster does however have a cracking point..... who the fek in their right mind is gunna pay £25 or £28 to watch the current drivel being dished up, on a regular basis. This being a rhetorical question, i will give you the answer..... not many! And i am sure Saturday's attendance against Bristol will back this up. Fans in high numbers will not go at any price if the results are consistently poor. hth
I agree with what you are saying about making it easier to take advantage of the £25 discounted price. This point was made strongly by the BBS people at the meeting with Don. I'm sure BBSers will continue to make this point as will the Supporters Trust. Hopefully something will be sorted out. I think the reality is that success on the field is going to be the only way to swell the crowd at Oakwell. We've seen dropping prices doesnt have a huge effect.
We agree once again then i feel. The bottom line is.........win regularly, move up the league and you could charge what you wanted realistically. Whilever we stay as we just trying to avoid relegation etc, the crowds will diminish and we will slowly but surely slip down the leagues. The question is why cannot the folk who run the club see this? Maybe they do indeed see this and have not the acumen required to sort it. hth
Why is 2 trips every time you want to go or a 90 min hang around. I thought once you purchase the membership you went in a as normal for every game after
Never seen the Ponty as sparse for a first team game...than against Boro...how long will the stay away fans be berrated and ignored
Nope, have to buy tickets at least hour and half before kick off. Not going Saturday anyway, but midweek I would have no chance of being at the ground to take up the offer. It's as if the club don't know people have to work!
I'm sorry, what do you want exactly? If you stay away, its your choice. Being a fan means taking the bad with the good. I agree that for the most part its been the bad, but is that a reason to stay away? As many have pointed out, fewer fans means less income. Less income means less to spend on the team. So what do you want the club to do?
i know it's old hat and has been said numerous times, but the club really ant got a clue sorry for the harsh reality but it's true Stronger together ?..... maybe but i feel it's a saying with no substance at Oakwell hth
Lol didn't realise that, I thought you just initially Paid the 3 quid at a quiet time to get the membership card and then you just bought future tickets as normal but showing the card to get the discount. Would that have been too easy.
Re: I'm sorry, what do you want exactly? "Being a fan means taking the bad with the good" WHAT!!!?? If I am a fan of a particular restaurant I recommend it and return time and again because it offers good value/ quality. If I enjoy going to a particular hotel or area and recommend it I am a fan because it is good quality value etc. Why on God's Earth should people pay through the nose to watch sub standard performances from a bunch of losers who couldn't give a **** about the fans just so long as they get their ridiculous wages each week? Oh!.... sorry.... "because they are real fans!!" In case you hadn't noticed football is no longer the only thing for working men to do on a Saturday afternoon for entertainment. Loyalty has been stretched to breaking point and more and more people are turning their back on the hype and finding better things to spend their money on. You are right - it is our choice. Enjoy your football, hope you dont get too lonely sitting in the stands in the next few years 'cos that is the way football is heading.
There had been a series of avents at Oakwell since promotion...optimism-good atmosphere to aground where you could hear apin drop..to booing...and now empty stands...what do xl expect the club to do....nothing...just to blame others for the way it's been run until it's dimise is complete
Did don come up with any justification or reasoning for people only being able to get discounts ridiculously early? The only thing I can think of is that the club doesn't trust it's employee's (ie the turnstyle operators) not to commit fraud. Sad state of affairs if thats the case.
Thought someone said something about away fans but can't understand why that would be the case. It does seem a farcical situation
It's complete madness. If I paid on the day then for a night match I'd have to be at Oakwell 15 minutes before I finished work on friday (just gone) to take advantage of the discount. At the end of last season they did an offer with a chronicle voucher, you had to be at oakwell before 10:30 in the morning to take the offer.
Re: I'm sorry, what do you want exactly? Football doesn't work like that though or everybody would be City, Manure, Chelsea fans, etc. And not just the plastics who parade up and down every high street in the country wearing their new City top with pride, I mean every body. Teams like Barnsley would not exist if potential fans applied this kind of logic when deciding who to support. NB. I agree wholeheartedly about the wages though.
You can't charge the away fans more than the home fans for comparible seating. ie behind the net at each end or lower tier on the sides etc. Leeds United decided to try to fleece away supporters for every penny that they could. How did they do this? They moved them from the cheapest seats in the stadium to the most expensive. From behind the goals to the upper tier down the side. This allows them to fleece away fans while still being able to offer cheaper tickets to their home fans ensuring that they sell as many tickets as possible. Barnsley also decided to try to fleece the away supporters. How did they do this? They left the away fans in the cheapest area of the ground and upped the price for EVERYONE to a flat rate which is expensive. This allows them to get a lot of money from away fans but drove away the home fans who couldn't afford it. The craziest thing about this? That the most expensive seats in the house are designed to house away fans with a dividing wall in the concourse and sits empty every week. yes I'm talking about the west stand upper tier. Shift them into the upper tier there, charge them £30 and lower the price behin;d the goals to £20 allowing home fans in both ends
Re: I'm sorry, what do you want exactly? Not sure I agree that everyone would be City Manure Chelsea. I became a Barnsley fan when I moved here age 13. they were not glamorous,My dad was a 'Glory chaser' and bought a Leeds Utd season ticket and tried to persuade me to go. I found it better to socialise with new found mates and ended up at Oakwell each home game (it was cheap enough even with meagre pocket money). Often the quality was poor but atmosphere, whilst crowds were not the same as you got at (old) 1st Division, was still good and the 'bond' between me and BFC was complete. Whilst I no longer attend Oakwell and have fallen out of love to a great extent with football, it is telling that I could NEVER support another team or change alliegance. Barnsley is always the 1st result report I look for when away. I just dont feel I can financially support football in its current state. Personally, and I know it sounds perverse, I wish the whole thing would come crashing down and we could start afresh. Sensible player wages and much less TV would mean drastically cheaper tickets. Footballers would still play football (let's face it, most of them - with a few exceptions couldn't make much doing anything else).
