Plus the original £2.2 million or so we got from Everton for Stones. Who now thinks its bad buisness? A record trsnsfer fee for Barnsley fc for a fee recieved for a player easily topping the £4.5million Blackburn paid for Ashley Ward.
But it could have been more couldn't it? We've done ok in the end, but when you see other clubs getting higher fees for much lesser players, we've still probably not done as well as we should with perhaps the most naturally gifted player we've ever developed. "Is he any good?" will always live long in the mind sadly.
Entirely depends on what Everton were willing to offer. More money might have been countered with a lower sell on percentage. We don't know. Either way £10m for a lad playing just 19 league starts is a great deal.
Think nearly 10 million for a 19 year old defender who had played just over 20 games in the championship is a brilliant deal for us. Bolton only recently got an initial 2 million from arsenal for their young CB.
