Our media/marketing team seem to do all they can to make us look cringe and tinpot.

We’ll be a laughing stock if we get stuffed tomorrow in our “rematch of the season”.

I understand building excitement for a game but this is just terrible.

Am I the only one that doesn’t understand why they’re billing it as the ‘rematch of the season’ anyway?

    I'm inclined to agree.

No it's had me baffled all week. And I agree with the OP that it is very cringey.

Hated it from the moment I saw it. I do actually like the Toby Tyke videos and think they are quite funny, but 'rematch of the season' it is not.

“The rematch of the season” though?

    Who says it is?

You can’t advertise something as that in my opinion. Not only is it cringeworthy there’s a good chance it won’t be true. How can anyone say any game will be the rematch of the season?

They’re basically saying come and watch the rematch of the season. As if it’s guaranteed. It’s makes no sense.

I appreciate that it's a marketing ploy to increase bums on seats for this particular game, and it may have been successful in achieving that which undoubtedly is a good thing. But to bill it as the rematch of the season is somewhat perplexing. If it had lead to the announcing of a signing then I think I could have digested it a little easier.

wise move .. Toby is one of the most underrated promotional tools at the clubs disposal ... Ive said for years he should be involved more within the education area... within local schools, whilst i know they do certain events , there should be books and stuff helping to teach the kids to read, free pencils and stuff ....catch the kids at an early age ...even a Disney type of film ...that would not only promote Toby and bring in a revenue stream it would also bring Barnsley football club to a wider audience ...something for the new owners to chew on .

Think it’s more the marketing side of the club rather than media side of the club , trying to promote toby more.

It's not even 'of the season so far', we might as well chuck our season ticket away after this match.

I get promoting Toby but I don’t get the ‘Rocky’ theme.

Do the next generation of fans coming through even know who Rocky is?

It's pretty embarrassing, but harmless i guess. Best thing is people on twitter adamant that it's ashley fletcher in a toby tyke suit waiting to be unveiled.

The rematch of the season is a bit too embarrassing for me. That said if it works great. Can't see it tho. Far too Americanised.

As for the toby thing I do hope it's going somewhere as don't really get it otherwise

I'm not sure about the rematch theme, but it's us against the top of the league, who will be bringing several thousand with them. I think the club are right to be hyping it.

Having worn the head of Toby and his boots some 7 years ago whilst sat in a chair I can honestly say ..that I take my hat off to who ever is wearing the costume....running around trying to see out of a 4 /5 x 2 inch gause gap it's like wearing a crash helmet with a top heavy weight on your head let alone the boots which are oversized clown shoes
Those latest videos of Toby says to me that's not the same guy who wears it on match days lol
