    Which is it?

Did Stevenage purposely not prepare the pitch because they have 3 players out or did the referee call the game off despite it being playable?

Not everything is a conspiracy. The most likely thing is that stevenage did what they could to get the game on but there were still areas the referee wasn’t happy with.

They could have poured boiling water on the affected area at 11am and it would have been fine. 5-6 degrees so no chance of it refreezing.

3 players out with COVID tells me the ground staff were told to do as little as possible

There’s a post in another thread which is pertinent here in that, why can’t the problem with the pitch at 1100:am that still is a problem at 1:00pm be communicated widely so that people may/ may not understand? Particularly as one side believe it is playable

    hard 1 to call
do the owners want to lose out on potentially 1k fans not turning out on a tuesday night rearranged game with gate receipts and beer & pie sales to give them a greater chance of 3points? i don't think so
i feel for our fans who have lost out on money that's non refundable but genuinely think the ref gave it the best chance for the game to be played today

Why stop at killing all the grass with boiling water when they could have used flame throwers or flooded the field with petrol and set light to that. In fact, haven't they got any napalm?

Meanwhile, 10 miles down the road at very non league Harpenden Town, conditions were obviously very much different...

Do Harpenden Town use an artificial pitch? Can't be arsed to Google.

The mud on the pitch would suggest not.

end of the day,the ref calls it, if a player gets injured and it's proven that an icy pitch was at fault, he will probably lose his job
like everything else to do with the UK now, look after number 1 a sod the rest

If the ref thinks a player might get injured and cause him to lose his job then he’s right to call it off because he honestly believes someone may get injured.

Must have been close to been playable but hasn't happened bad for fans really fell for them but like said if it goes ahead and a player gets injured due to frozen pitch it's on the refs toes.

Hilarious that he tried to frame someone doing something for others safety as "look after number 1 a sod the rest"

Even if it was possible for them to throw it (which I doubt), surely they'd want the ticket income? 1300ish Barnsley fans plus whichever of their supporters won't come out on a Tuesday will be a decent chunk when you look at their average attendances.
