Last year not as a resolution but more a personal challenge I wanted to go every day this year walking a minimum of 10,000 steps per day ( I walked 2570 miles in 2020 but didn’t always do 10,000 steps), I am pleased that I managed this comfortably averaging 17,454 ( still rest of day to go), when I say comfortably I tested positive on Oct 5th and could barely lift my head off the pillow for 4/5 days but somehow did it. Having long suffered with a prolapsed disc I was advised by my GP to walk as much as I could in Nov 2019 and it’s fair to say I have done so, there has been the odd blip long days at work etc but the benefit to both my Rodney Jack and my Mental health cannot be understated! I am at around 3200 miles in 2021 with only trips to the fridge and toilet left but I intend to carry on in 2022, perhaps I could fill Saturday afternoons in walking. By the way the wife calls me Walking Wnakstick Happy New Year fellow Reds it has to improve on “Grove Street”
I've walked just over 2000 miles this year, did more in 2020 due to being out of work due to lockdown. Beats the Proclaimers who could only manage 1000, although I'm unsure what the time frame was though.
To add some balance to anyone reading this who feels inadequate… I got a Garmin Vivosmart 4 for Christmas and so far I’ve done 5036, 1036, 4549, 545(!), 6228 and today the battery ran out and I hadn’t noticed, so who knows what it has or hasn’t recorded. I’m off work at the minute so I’ve no idea what my normal day to day will be. The 4k-5k days included a dog walk each day for around an hour up and down hills but still got no where near the elusive 10,000. It reckons I burn around 2000 calories a day (mainly from resting haha) but I barely eat 1200 most days so I’m not too worried.
Great stuff. You can't put a price on health and it's good you're doing your bit. I like to go on a few walks a week that add up to around 10-11 miles. No better time for anyone than after enjoying Christmas to try and lose a few pounds
Cycled 5,250 miles, run 400 but don’t count my walking miles. A record for cycling but injuries mean that the 2,000 running miles a year of 15 years ago will never happen again. Keep fit everyone without good health you are nothing!
Congratulations I set myself the same challenge but unfortunately I wasn't as dedicated though I've still managed to average over 10k a day which I'm chuffed with especially as I've worked from home the whole year
That's my target and I'm averaging about 10400 per day. I had to switch my fitness tracker in March so haven't got the full year recorded. Mainly walking the dog and it's been pretty much my only form of exercise this year. I don't get many steps in at work, i've a desk job so only do about 2500.
I had a similar personal challenge. Not 10,000 steps per day, but 10,000 in total for the year. Unfortunately, with just 4 hours left to go, I'm still 8,000 short. I'll get there next year.
Just worked mine out for the last year, 4.2 million averaging 11.5 thousand a day. Going for it this year though.
