-the ‘keepers scares the **** out of me -Roberts isn’t good enough to be a regular this season -Pines injured -O’Keefe isn’t the one and is still petulant as ****. We’re playing a team who’re yet to win yet this season on Saturday, that result tonight has worried me…. We need a back 4 on Saturday; Cotter, MDG, ? and Earl.
Much as Cotter is a better player than last season he's no full back. None of our wing backs are defensively sound enough to play in a back 4.
Agreed we are somewhat caught between a rock and a hard place, DC wants to play a 4 at the back but we haven't got proper full backs. We then revert back to the 352 system and get punished down the flanks. I honestly don't know what the solution is, but it's clear the squad is imbalanced with 8 players capable of playing CM
4-4-2. Attacking set up as we can’t defend. Why not? Killip Lofthouse MDG Roberts Earl Cotter Phillips Connell DKD Cosgrove Humphrys Subs Slonina McCarthy O’Keeffe Craig Watters Benson Russell
I wouldn’t have MDG or O’Keefe anywhere near the starting line up but the other options aren’t great.
I’m speaking more generally. Too slow. Gets caught in and out of possession far too often. The constant in an awful defence.
The LB/LWB we signed in Gent not even getting a look in, instead we persisting putting square pegs in round holes, give the lad a run in the team. Killip MDG Roberts Earl Cotter connell Phillips Gent DKD Humphreys Cosgrove
Hard to argue with that, unfortunately. Losing 7-0 is ****, but the way we lost it was extremely uncomfortable.
Said it all last season, was sick of hearing myself saying it, issue is the club has backed themselves into a corner with it from a recruitment process and then made some poor buys, having box to box wing backs able to create and defend and quick CB's is pivotal. Someone at the club obviously thought it was the way to go, it was quite fashionable at the time, we just can't apply it effectively as we haven't the quality
Back 4 doesn't work either. We didnt concede Saturday in the back 3 but as soon as we went to a back 4 we shipped 3 goals.
MDG was the only one looking like a footballer tonight; 7-0 could have been twelve or thirteen very easily.
Well he’s 18 months into not looking like one so he was due a performance. He has been awful this season and the end of last.
I actually thought we played better today than on Saturday. Sounds mad I know, but there was a huge gulf in quality of opposition. I was surprised at how bad we were at Stevenage, but not tonight. I didn’t hold out any hope of a result, and once I saw their starting 11, I feared it would be a long night. Tonight was a free hit, Performance at Burton much more important.
People on this forum keep saying he's honest and says it how it is in every interview. I'm not interested in what Clarke says in his interviews, I'd rather focus on what's happening on the pitch and the last 2 games haven't been anywhere near good enough. There's also concerns about the overall fitness of the squad What have they been doing in pre season?
