What I'd do to see us do it again. Many clubs take the Fa Cup for granted these days, just a 'trophy'. But god I would love it.
Me too - I was 15 at the time, I remember just laying in my bed crying all night after that. I was distraught, haha. I had a major dislike of Cardiff, and Ledley in particular, for a long time after that. Obviously I've learnt not to dislike teams, or players, just because theyve done their jobs. I just dislike Leeds, Wednesday, Sheffield united now... I think I'll add Wigan to that list soon enough with how their fans have been since 'we' relegated them...
My grandad walked from Wombwell to Sheffield to see that game. I would have gone with him but I was -40 at the time.
It's the worst I've ever felt after a defeat as well. I knew it was the only serious chance we'd ever have of winning a major trophy in my lifetime and we blew it.
Don Rowing was in charge. We had 2,345 season ticket holders. Offered 100 each, first come first served. First 400 in the queue took the lot for their hangers on mates. I was 401st. Sold out. B'stds.
I went to Anfield and didn't have a season ticket that season. My mates got me a ticket for that game and the Chelsea match too. Good lads. It was mad the scramble for tickets for both games. Then when I'd secured my own ticket they were offered round like bus loads by people that had snaffled them needlessly trying to get rid. My Dad missed out on a Chelsea ticket but if he'd gone to Barnsley he'd have got in.
I remember watching the start of the build up to the final, when Dave Jones proudly claimed that Cardiff had put the romance back into the cup. They'd beaten us and Middlesbrough, while we had beaten 2 of the then big 4. I then switched off.
