    Why does Shepherd let all contracts run down to the wire, we had this stupid situation after promotion 5 best players all out of contract, doesn't he ever learn. Old management methods, im afriad GS is living in another era.

    In some respects, that's probably not Gordon's fault

    Players nowadays (at least the good ones) will always hedge ther bets in case a better offer comes along in the summer. Add to that the fact that we don't know which league we will be in next season, and this gives the chairman a major headache.

    It's the same scenario as last summer.

    Only the average ones will snatch your hand off whe ofered a two year deal or an extension.

    I think it is fair to say that Paul Reid falls into the second category (witness the speed at which he re-signed). Brian Howard falls into the first.
